Hello & advice please BRAKES SEIZING SPORT 2001 YR

Hi
Happy New Year to all
I am new and would appreciate any comments regarding the brake calliper failures on my 2001 Y Almera, 1.8 Sport which had done 38,000 miles when I purchased it in May 2008.

In September 08, March 09 & December 09 the car needed the brake callipers to be replaced (2 front & 1 rear), plus discs & pads. This was due to brakes seizing.

I have only juts done 48, 000 miles.
Can I ask any members if they can comment on such a failure rate over such a short time? Has anyone needed to change brake callipers at such a rate. Perhaps there was a problem with that "run" of cars?

Many thanks for any comments.

Rear calipers seizing is a common problem. Worth checking all 4 brakes though. Take them apart (two bolts that go into the slide pins) and apply copper grease on the pads where they make contact with the caliper (backs and sides) and lots on the slide pins.

Shouldnt need to replace them all the time just keep them maintained like this. In fact my near side rear caliper siezed the other day. You can spot this with the car pulling in a direction and the wheels getting very hot. 15 minutes later I sorted it and has been fine.

Thanks for the info EDK.
I do not undertake my own repairs so I shall assume that the final (front) caliper will need attention in the near furure.
