Just found this forum and hope you can answer a stupid question.

How do I open the bonnet on my car (stop sniggering at the back there!).

We have had the 2003 1.5 Almera for two months and I wanted to top up the windscreen washer bottle, so I have managed to get the bonnet to spring up from the lever near the drivers right knee – but can I find a latch under the bonnet that allows me to fully open it? No way!

The driver's handbook doesn't offer up much help, just a piddly little diagram that doesn't really tell you where it lives on the car.

Please help; the probably neighbours think I am some kind of weirdo with me and my torch peering into the two inch gap under the bonnet.

I would probably be one of those :lol:

Not sure on your model but generally, on most cars, or ones I have driven anyway, the catch is either in the middle or slightly offset to the right hand side as you look at it from the front. It is there somewhere.

Just found this pic which sort of shows it. The pic is of an N16 like yours and you can just see the bonnet catch at the bottom of the pic (arrowed). It looks like it is right in the middle of the bonnet just under the Nissan badge somewhere. Stick your fingers up and have a feel around and i'm sure you'll find it somewhere just there.

Thanks for your help! I managed to finally find the small lever near the right-hand headlight, but still couldn't quite get to it with my fingers alone so I had to use a stick to prise the lever to pop the catch – what a bad design on an otherwise excellent car!
