Hello and i have a question already!

Hi all,

I have a 03 Almera, SVE 1.8. A mate of mine has had some problems with his car and they are similar to the issues im having with mine. He has found out it was his EGR valve causing it, so i wanted to find mine to disconnect it and see if that sorts it but i cant find it under the hood. Any thoughts??

Cheers
Tom

Hi Tom, welcome to the site. I haven't actually heard of any problems with the EGR on 1.8's, just the 2.2 Dci models. We might be able to help you if you tell us the signs/symptoms ?

and to use the SEARCH BUTTON

bottom left is a thank button!

i suggest you go brush up your search skills and find EDk

I HAD used the search button first BEFORE asking and i DID find the thread you posted above among others but my engine does not look the same as the one in the pictures, where the egr vavle is on the photo mine aint.

Im also very sorry if my search skills dont quite match up to yours but your results aint no good to me either!

Anyway, the car is not starting well, mainly from cold, if i put the key in and turn on the ingition but not start it and hear a humming sound i know it will start stright away, if there is no sound it wont start unless i give it a bit of throttle too.

It has also cut out completly on me a few times too. This is what happened to a mate of mine the other week and made me think i might have a similar issue to him which was the egr vavle. As you can run the car without it i wanted to find it and unplug it and see what happens with the starting.

Regards

Tom

Sounds like z fuel pump to me...

The 'humming' you describe when turning the ignition on is the pump 'priming'.

Welcome btw :)

Also....as for unplugging the EGR, it will start, but it wont rev past 3.5k, as i found out on the 1/4 mile strip last year lol!

To locate it, open the bonnet, look at the rocker cover, its on the right handside. Its got a copper pipe coming from the exhaust manifold going in, then another pipe coming out going up towards the inlet manifold :)

Hope this helps
