Hello from a new almera owner :)

I picked up my P1 Almera 1.4 GX about 5 days ago for my first car, and what a first car to have! I payed £550 for it, and it's mint other than a couple of chips in the paint and some welding needed on the sills. Have to keep it stock though due to insurance being £120 a month as it is!

Obviously I need to change the head unit in it, especially seeing as the radio cassette that came with the car does nothing, but I can't work out how to get the old one out without having to take the center console off, is that what I have to do?

Phil

there's 2 screws hidden just above the heater controls, and open ashtray to release console surround.
altho think you might have to unscrew the plastic surround around the speedo too, maybe?

yeah, especially if left for another 6 months. prob best to get it done asap b4 it gets worse.
also if sills are gone check inner wings and rear suspension turret tops, seat belt anchorage points. they're common places on almeras, well nissans. it'll fail on them too if corroded

welcome and glad you liek the almera mate, as for the sills get them looked at asap by somone in the know
to get the sterio surrounding center dash part out you dont need to touch anything apart from the center part of your dash ( ie not the speedo area).
there is the 2 screws previously mentions then 4 clips which just pull out but becarful that when u pull the center section out the metal clips dont fall down the back of your dash.
if you need any more help send me a pm mate

Thanks for the help! I managed to get the new head unit in, couldn't get the center bit of the dash right off though as I couldn't unplug the cables from the switches, but oh well. At least I know it's not going to get nicked.

MOT isn't for another 5 months, do I need to get my sills sorted before then, or can I hold off until the MOT to get it sorted? Seeing as I'm only 18 I'm not particularly loaded.

Phil

best to get it done asap mate. i had a bit of rust on the sills and turret tops of my sunny GTi, left it a couple of months and ended up with a hole i could fit my fist through from inside the boot to touch my back wheels.
on top of that i tried jackin the car up on the sills and the jack went straight through the sills and the car stayed firmly on the floor!!

and that was only a few months after i noticed, depends how bad it is at the mo but sooner rather than later, definitely.
