Hi,

Have a 2000 model Alerma Sport+. Stereo seems ok to me  anyway was wondering if there was a way to plug my ipod to it directly via the 'aux' ???

Is there this socket at the back somewhere, don't really want to change the whole head unit as not sure how long i'll be keeping the car for.

thanks in advance !!!

Welcome. The standard stereo wont have an aux input. the only way to get your ipod to run through your stereo is using an FM modulator. Either one that plugs into the fag lighter or is battery operated will be fine. look to pay around 10-25 quid depending on quality. the device then sends your music as a radio signal onto an unused station setting.

thanks very mich for the quick reply.

was thinking, as the built in CD player isn't working too good atm, can i unplug that and get some sort of lead and plug that into my ipod, hope that makes sense ?

Does make sense! But you will have to buy a complete new stereo for a 'plug in' option.
Sony currently produce a CDX-GT300s which comes complete with an i pod charge/play/control lead. This will enable you to use the i pod similar to a cd changer in that you can leave it in the glove box and control it on the stereo. look to pay 180 quid for the stereo and connections for ipod, 25 quid for a dashboard conversion facia plate and 12.99 for a nissan to sony haness lead.

wow, thanks but that option is kinda out of the question... way to expensive sorry.

was thinking something simple like unplug current CD changer and plug that into my ipod and that's it :D guess not possible with my stupid head unit.

thanks though

Just go for an fm modulator, i work in the motor trade and they start from about 10 quid. type it into ebay and u mite grab a bargain. good luck.

Not sure what head unit you have but My 2000 Almera had a tape deck.

Up until last week I was using a cassette tape adaptor. It's basically a cassette with a cable coming out of it that you plug into the standard headphone socket on any personal-stereo type device. Costs about 5 quid and works great but does mean a cable running from the tape deck.

I think it was a optional extra to get a CD player. any way its best to grab hold of the FM thingy. but please be aware that the quality is not the best.

I see where you're coming from but, the iPod wont have a strong enough signal to directly drive the speakers. It would have to go through an amplifier. Cheapest solution is to send it to the radio with a £10-30 plug in pirate radio station (they are still illegal in the UK!)

Otherwise get an MP3 headunit.

Only if the bandwith area exceeds 3ft. Other wise known as an fm modulator??
