Hello! New member.

Hi
I am new to the site (although not to Almera ownership) and was wondering if anyone would help me.
Can anyone tell me (and even better provide a picture) where the diagnostics port is on my N16 Almera Sport+ (2001). Looked all over (admittedly in the dark with a torch) and cannot find it. Had the MI light on for a couple of days now and need to find out whats up.

Many thanks in advance

Adam.

No, it's just tucked under the trim. Because it's low down you can't see it unless you get yourself down low.
Possible it's been unseated and is loose but it's down there somewhere :-)

Brilliant, you have saved me some bother. Going to borrow a diagnostic tool tomorrow and get to the bottom of the problem

If you've got a mate with a diagnostic tool then fair play.

If not you can do the same thing with a paperclip and the factory service manual.

The procedure should be findable on here (search for paperclip) but it may have been lost in the last big forum meltdown and/or be in a members only section.

Got to love a motor manufacturer that lets you substitute thousands of pounds worth of diagnostic equipment with a bit of bent wire.

Edit: Those posts seem to have been nuked in the last crash. Will-redo them when I get a spare hour.

Thanks for all your help. I have a little update.....

....tried the paperclip method following the procedure in the haynes manual and a diagram found on the net, to no effect, so reverted to plan b and borrowed a fault code reader. Although the MIL had been lit for over four days, the reader returned no recorded faults. This is an expensive professional quality reader, so there isn't much danger of it being wrong, so.... I'm a little mystified. I didn't really have any symptoms to go on (idling normally, smooth acceleration, temp normal and no noticable effect on fuel economy etc), so short of the MIL having a fault I haven't a clue as to why it tripped. Any ideas would be welcome. Or perhaps I shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth.

I had a fault on my 2001 1.5 and although I got a code with the paperclip (swirl control solenoid fault) after extensive testing it turned out to be a fault in the ecu.

Don't know if Hayes shows the method from the service manual or if it's different.

finally got a code after the light came on again during a long drive - P0171 (system too lean). Before i needlessly change all the sensors and vacuum hoses, anybody have a good idea where to concentrate?

Many thanks.
