Hello, pleased to be here and already a problem to boot!

Hello,

My name is Tom. I just bought myself a Nissan Almera 1.4i GX (1999) as my first car. So far, extremely satisfied. I'm now in the process of upgrading small bits and bobs, like removing dents from the bumpers, painting the rims back to their original black, replacing the wipers and lastly, the radio.

I don't know if I can describe the problem I'm having in this subforum since I haven't found the electronics subforum yet (if there is one).

I bought the car at a second hand retailer some weeks ago, the car itself had an old Pioneer KE 4900 radio in it. (DSC_0079) The most advanced feature it has is an LCD screen. While the sound is okayish but with the reception only passable (don't know if it depends on radio receiver or the actual antenna), I still want a more up to date device.

My dad found a cheap unit with a 3.5 aux jack, USB, SD card reader and Bluetooth. I often use the latter to stream music from my phone to the radio. The cheap radio set is brandless but I think the connectors on the backside are ISO, right? (DSC_0088)

Now, the problem is, the cables coming out of the car do not seem to fit any of the cables on the back of the new radio. These cables, however, fitted with the old Pioneer radio. I'm very new at this and so is my dad, who will be doing the repairs/replacement.

These are the cables coming out of the old Pioneer radio set:

I guess I need some sort of adapter that lets me connect the original car's wirings to the two plugs on the backside of the radio I intend to use. Am I correct when I assume that? Also, when I succesfully install that radio set, will it perfectly let me use the car's speakers for my phone, since all of the data traffic goes directly through the radio unit?

At any rate, thanks and I apologize if this was no the correct subforum to post this. I look forward to your help.

(PS: I used the "attached files" option for my photos, I also compressed them quite a lot since I've hit our internet's data limit.)

Welcome along. Unfortunately it looks like your wiring loom has been butchered in order to fit that archaic stereo. You're right that you can buy the adapter loom for the OEM wiring harness but yours is missing by the looks of it. Your best bet would be to either try and find an OEM harness from a scrap car or, if you can do some rudimentary wiring yourself, buy the adaptor harness and wire it directly into the ignition live, ground etc from what's left behind there. The OEM harness has two plugs. one for the speakers and the other for power.
