Hello all , yes another newbie on here ....just got my first almera and was looking for somewhere to chat about them , so i guess this is the place !!
Its a 1996 4 door sri in red , and its loverly ... :) (except for the wheel trims...don't worry , gti alloys have already been ordered ..)

The main reason i'm here is to get some help with the handling , because at the moment its all over the place . The front seems fine but the back is jumping around most of the time , i think its just knackered shocks , but its off to the garage to be checked tomorrow , so we will see

If that is the case them i'm probably going to get some sort of suspension kit for it , but as i've never had a jap car before i dont know where to look and what sort of prices to expect , so any advice would be grately appreciated , the only thing i seem to be able to find are spring kits ....!!!

I'll try to get some pics on here , and then i'm going to want more advice about what to do to it next ....styling wise ...

Look forward to hearing from anyone ....

hi hun! so your first almera is it? glad to see another member here! i only joined in december bought my GTi loving it but hate the fact not many girls on this site!

Problem is, there aint much available for our cars unless you know where to look. Suspension shouldnt be a problem. As you said, spring kits are readily available but shockers are a different issue. Any garage should be able to get hold of some shockers for you but if you're wanting sporty ones, you'll have to get them from the US or Japan, and they aint cheap!

Styling-wise, I think there is one bodykit available from Germany on Ebay (look for JoyTuning) but apart from that, you have to be inventive. There are a couple of grilles available and a couple of genuine Nissan grilles.

Get your membership form off and have a browse of the site, lots of info about!

Welcome!

:welcome:

Get your £15 sent off & you`ll qualify to get a set of Coilovers (full lowering suspension) for £570 & various other bits from our supplier in the states! ;)

I`m just waiting for mine to arrive (3-4 weeks)! :D

Is yours metallic red? as I`ve seen one going along the A12 a few times!

edit: Another `mera in Ipswich, that must be at least 4 on here, plus a couple from Colchester & me (Clacton)!

We REALLY need to sort out an East Anglian `mera meet, &/or a convoy up to JAE!

Yep its red ....how did you guess ....lol. thanks for the help so far , think i might of found a full kit here in england , i'll look into it and let everyone know !

back to this rear suspension of mine ....will gti shocks fit on mine ? , and will they make much of a difference over standard ones . Might have to go down this route as times are hard ...lol . If they do then i'll go for a set of them with some decent lowering springs , are we talking easy to fit yourself , or a complete nightmare ????
(garage have quoted me £250 just to change the rear shocks ....)

Does that include parts and labour? Try a different garage aswell as you may find prices are different. Would be cheaper to buy the parts yourself I would guess and just get them to change them over. Not sure of GTi shock will fit as they are different to the other models I think. Sure someone can give you the right answer on that though.

if you get gti springs and gti shocks then they'll fit. they arent hard to fit at the rear, just a pain cos you have to take the seats out and the chassis stiffening plates. but when thats out, its two 12mm bolts at the top and one 17mm one at the bottom.

Welcome to the site mate! Another Ipswich Mera, fook there getting popular! When i first had me green one i was the only one about! lol

As for shox when the ones went on my 1.4 when i had it i got some KYB ones worked a treat and only paid 160 fitted. (was about 2 1/2 years ago though)

 Haha! Yes, I know it`s red, what I meant was, is it bright red (look @ Amz avy), or is it the dark brownish, metallic red?

It`s the darker one I keep seeing (with no alloys), somewhere on the A12 between Colchester & Chelmsford & a light blue one (same colour as gnuoynomis), driven by a 40ish woman with brown/black hair, coming from Ipswich, always see the blue one somewhere between Copdock & Marks Tey.

The reason I asked is, there`s a dark red one, with 5 spoke alloys, always parked round the back of M&S in Clacton of an evening, think they work in the chippy opposite!

When you said "4 door sri in red" I thought, Ah, it`s you! then I read "except for the trims" so it`s not you!

No its the bright red , same as Amz....and i've only had it about a month now ....
Went to halfords and got a manual today , and got some spring compressors off e-bay so it looks like i'm doing it myself ..!!!
I'm gonna go for gti shocks and a set of lowering springs i think , i've seen several sets of srpings around , anybody got any idea which ones are any good ... i've seen g-max mentioned quite alot !!
