Hello

Just thaught id pop a thread to say hello before i join as a full member. Currently purchased a 2.0 DOHC Almera GTi on a 96 plate. The car is blue as standard could someone shead any light into what this colour is called? (i will get pics as soon as possible as i am at work atm) The car has 17" alloys and a cat-back poweflow system and i have many plans to up the engine power. By trade i am a car mechanic so should be able to help people with advise etc.

I am only 20 i was wandering if many other people my age if any own a gti???

My plans for the car are as folows:

- Install my 1500W rockford fosgate system with 7" widescreen dvd

- Install PPX airfilter, 4-2-1 SS manifold and front pipe, de-cat pipe, flighten the flywheel and install a fuel pressure regulator to help ease the flat spot in 3000rmp - 4000rmp.

Has anyone doen any similar mods, if so what sort of power increase if any can i expect? I presume it will make it alot more free-revving....?

Thanks

Syms

many members up in newcastle or up north?!

hey hey

Welcome lol..

Im 20 aswell mate and from up North... South Shields to be exact but practically live in Newcastle like; which part you from??.. I also own a GTi yet its Black..

Erm.. the mods above most people have as far as I know, good mods to start with Id say.. you'll get more familiar with other peoples mods the more you look and search on this forum... theres loads of mad mods and sensible mods, if you sign up totally, youve got access to what others cant see and thers valuable stuff there, but if your a mec you should already have a decent grasp anyways lol...

anywhoooo.... hows the GTi??

The 1500W sounds lovely... ahh btw, who are you insured with??

Nice choice of mods mate im 20 and sold my blue GTi recently, had a fidanza lightened flywheel in which is reported to give around 17bhp in first gear, i think about 12bhp in second and so on, also had a pipercross vector with a cold air feed which gave a bit more response, if you do the right selection of sensible mods (which you seem to have planned already) the GTi can be a very quick N/A car!

thanks for your quick replies. I will be a full member as soon as my garage pays me

I live in whitley bay mate pretty dam close to south shields you out in your almera much?!

As for your insuarance question, my insurance provider is BELL it is fully comp insurance with me as the policy holder and i pay 920quid a year, and i was only 20 in october. Seems pretty good as my heavily modded saxo vtr was nearly 2000pound a year (turbo conversion)

I thaught i would get the basics set down on my almera first your know, sensible gains which wont melt my engine lock etc :P

The only thing i am having problems sourcing is a lightweight flywheel and SS front pipe and 4-2-1 manifold. All bits must be exact replacement parts!! Could anyone help me out with a direct link or summit? (but i donot buy off ebay) im really wanting to get these in asap while my grage is quiet and i can use all the ramps so a quick reply would be most apreciated.

Thanks in advance

:welcome:

nice choice of mods to start with you should see 160bhp, hang around and you'll pick up more as you go, your boy kow should keep you right :)

Theres a guy on here called Major Mods, who owns a tuning shop in the USA and he can supply the Fidanza Flywheel for you, may be worth PM'ing him! you will definatley feel the difference with it in, but you knew that, also as you probably also know, fitting the flywheel involves taking the gearbox out so its a nice easy time to fit a new (uprated if you need it) clutch while you're there.

yeah iv changed a milion flywheels in my time even on things like a BMW M3. Anyway thanks for the link for the manifold, will order it in the next week. As for the flywheel thanks for part number will have a look around. Iv already for a racing spec clutch which is goin in tomorow (thurs) and il fit the flywheel in about a week (i know it means doing job twice but hey i do it for a living  )

Iv never actualy lightenened the flywheel on one of my own cars before, is it true you loose power going up hills because it takes more effort for the engine to turn over. I imagine if you do notice it, it would be very very slight. (anyway who races up hills anyway :P)

Has anyone baught one of the manifolds from that link. Could someone tell me as of the quality?!

Thanks for all your help guys :D

Also i was thinking of doing a thread for you guys once id done the flywheel, like a sort of R&R of the box and installing a new flywheel? Would anyone be interested or has one already been done. Thanks....

I never had any problems driving with the lightened flywheels i think the difference is so slight that it's unnoticable! i just remember beating more or less everything i raced off the line with it in (granted i didnt race ferarris etc). If ithelps i raced my mate off some lights in his standard GTi and i was about 4 car lengths ahead after about 6 seconds.

I must agree, it is rather rapid when you `give it the beans`, even with the 17s on! ;)

Just so you know, I now own Kelvs Gti. :D

Is this the flywheel?!?! And iff so why the price diference?!

I paid £200 for it but that was second hand off a user on here (sparky marcky), but i'm sure Major Mods quoted me £260 for a new one from the USA, of course they will be available elsewhere on the internet but he was where i went first, hope that helps!

Works out about £200 ,from ebay.

Get the flywheel off ebay also, alot cheaper, it's listed as Nissan Sentra sr20de. And it weighs 8.5lbs

As for the manifold ,i have one and cannot fault it, in anyway. Well worth it.
