Hello

Hello my names chris from ireland,

Im stuck in a bit of a problem...... choosing between a n15 vzr or a n15 gti.

If anyone could let me know their opinions on which would be the better/faster car it would be appreciated.

thanks!

A VZ-R has the 1.6 16v SR16VE engine which is about 175 bhp The GTi will have the 2.0 16v SR20DE which is about 144 BHP

Or there is an Autech GTi which has a Tuned SR20DE which is around 185 BHP

The VZ-R is rarer the engine is more powerful than the GTi but doesn't have as much Torque you really need to let it rev high for it to get going.

Hows Chris, welcome to the AOC. Dunno which is better having never driven either but the 1.8 N16 is underrated, great car but I'm a bit biased..... Theres a few nice VZ-R's on carzone at the minute, and the few manual 1.8's are going cheap, worth a look..

Cheers lads,

I think im going to go for a GTi because i can buy one for half the price of a VZ-R and there becoming to be a lot rarer in ireland...

Does anyone know would it be much of a job putting a SR20VE head onto a SR20DE block???? how far would you have to go in terms of internals????

Thanks

use the search button, it is ur friend!!!!

if u cant find it u should think about becoming a full member.

i spent £15 and i saved £000's already well worth it!!

Hi Chris.
It may be that you feel a Gti offers better bang per buck, but without going out in both cars you could always be wondering if you made the right choice....
I`d suggest getting to a meet, and begging a ride or two.

HI

Eire_N16 , dont take this the wrong way but id rather go for the 2.2 diesel n16 as its quicker than the 1.8 petrol!

GTi will be a UK 2.0 I assume? You'd have to search hard and be ready to pay more for one that isnt full of rust.

VZ-Rs straight off the boat will have less metal cancer :)

welcome along mate, what part of ireland are you from?

theres one very nice GTi on carzone at the moment and its half the price of the VZR's.

imo, in ireland, an almera GTi will be alot rarer, however, the VZR will be cheaper to insure and tax, especially with the new laws coming in.

if you need any help or would like a spin in a VZR let me know, i'm located in Dublin..

good luck with it

Scott I've never been in the diesel so can't compare but my 1.8 was at 60 in 9 seconds on 17's? Wouldn't advise the 2.2 though because motor tax in Ireland is a bitch; 1.6 = €428p.a, 1.8 €530, 2.0 €590 and the 2.2 is €791!!!

Chris; I'd love to offer you a go in mine but it recently passed away. A lot of fun, handling was great and it was reasonably quick, would definately recommend one. It's not as quick as either the VZ-R or GTi :( but it is cheaper to insure...

I've never owned a diesel but after having a quick browse on the motor tax website they don't appear to differenciate here, I could be wrong!

Doesn't seam to be any difference, just chequed the disk in my dads 530d, €1,109 p.a!!!!

Ouch, diesel is cheaper to tax over here. Although isnt it changing now so that it's based on emissions?

thats coming in over here as well, all cars registered after 1st june will go under the new taxing system which is based off omissions as opposed to engine size.. afaik, theres no differenciation between diesel and petrol cars on the tax

Im after test drivin a ph1 GTi 97 yesterday shes unbelivably clean, not a spot of rust or paint flake ,39,000mls. Only problem is the front bumper is fairly rough and theres a fog light missing........ Any ideas of any websites where i could find one??????

Oh and shes missing the rear strut brace if anyone could point me in the direction of one it would be appreciated!

To the Irish lads, im living in cork, Where the vzrs are starting to pop up everywhere!!!!!
