'Lo folks :)

Just bought myself a phase 2 GTI in black. It's standard and it seems to have come with lots of airbags (driver, passenger and side).

It's the black one in this pic:

As you can see, my sister's chameleons like the shiny plastic-y dash. It keeps them warm when it's sunny :)

So far it's been a blast :) It just grips and goes, and when the grip goes it just oversteers everywhere.

Only faults with it were - I only got one key and NATS fob with the car and there's a knocking in the rear suspension - I think the linkage from the middle of the rear axle to the floor pan needs some grease in it. And the aircon's fcuked, but my friend is bringing me a new aircon compressor this weekend :)

The only thing that worries me slightly is the fact that the Almera only scored 1.5 stars in the Euro NCAP crash tests. But this one has airbags everywhere I guess, oh well.

Hey and welcome! Did you buy this from someone in hartlepool by any chance? It's pretty rare as it's a non-bodykit phase 2, rowdy_GTi's car was originally like that! Is the red one yours as well?
Wouldnt worry about the NCAP rating too much, it was mainly for pedestrian injuries!

Hello :) Nope, I bought it in London. One owner from new, 112k, mechanically spot on.

The red one is my friend's. He bought his Phase 1 bodykit model just a few days before I did. My friend Tommy in Ireland is to blame - he's had a GTI for years and got us both into them :)
 
Cheers :) PS forgot to say it's a 99 model. Is that why it has all those airbags on it?
 
welcome to the club, passenger and side airbags were an optional extra i believe. GTi's are always best in black :D
 
I think the phase 3 came with all the airbags, which was exactly the same as a phase 2 but these were the last ones off the production line that they put everything on as standard. No doubt if i'm wrong someone will tell me in a minute....

i wouldn't worry about safety rating mate iv personally crash tested my old gti at about 60-70 hitting a wall 3 times and i was at work 4hours late so your pretty safe :) anyway welcome :)
