Help! Camber adjustment

Can anyone help me.

When i lowered my car a couple of months back, i put the new tyres on and there nearly down to minimum on the inside due to the increased camber angles.

Really didnt expect them to wear so fast.

Basically does anyone know where i can go to get my camber angles set up properly so my car doesnt eat tyres, or am i left with the option of having to get coilovers with the adjustable top mount?

Thanks all.

Paul

A standard set-up can`t be camber adjusted.

Did you get the tracking checked after the lowering?......incorrect tracking combined with increased camber eats tyres. Camber alone doesn`t really do much harm.

I run 2* of neg camber with no issues.

Well waited an hour for the car to go on the ramp, got it on there, lasers etc, then the bloke goes to be honest theres not much point in doing the tracking because the camber is way off.

Was he talking out of his arse? It was at Kwik Fit

Nice one, will do, usually i dont go near Kwik Fit but i was in a rush so thought id give them a chance, idiots.

I remember seeing camber kits for various cars, thought i would need one after what the fool said.

The bloke at Quikfit should have still done your tracking even if the camber was out of spec.

Just avoid driving in straight lines and you'll be fine. :)

Seriously though, Whiteline do camber adjustment bolt kits at $68, they give you 1.5degree +/- adjustment.

Ive had that in the past with the front lowered, tyres bald on the inside, like Ian says its tracking mainly.

Reallys winds me up when places get arsey claiming they cant do their job cos its a modified car

tell me about it, they were like ooo it wont go up the ramp, i was like look its 40mm not 120 lowered, i know it goes up the ramps, its done it loads of times, obviously i wasnt arsy when saying it.

I apparently had the tracking done cople of months ago, so when i noticed the wear i thought it might need doing again, then the bloke says its due to the camber obviously i thought he knew what he was tlking about hence this thread. Tracking job for a competent garage next then.

think yourself lucky you didnt go to plp vauxhall comercial in warrington, got a new combo van from there that had 15" steel wheels on, i then fitted 16" cav turbo rims, correct vauxhall offset etc etc, then the van went into vauxhalls to have some work done on it and the guy rang me up saying that the camber is out because ive put bigger wheels on, laughed at him first then put him in his place, he didnt know i was a fully qualified mechanic lol

Camber can wear tyres out quicker that incorrect toe! The lad at Kwik fit is sorta right in what he is saying. When the toe is changed the camber will also move. The correct way is to set the camber first then adjust the toe. If the camber is way out you can still set the toe but due to the thrust angle it maybe still incorrect. Also putting larger wheel rims on will also effect the camber, sorry Scott, as you well know when working out the camber angle you have to use the wheel diameter in the calculation.

To prove the point :- Set the toe to spec with a incorrect camber, while the vehicle still has the tracking equipment on jack the vehicle up slowly so the camber is correct (as in cov case 40mm) and you we see that the tow is now out of spec. Anyway incorrect camber wear tyres as in cov photo and incorrect tow feathers the tyres.

I understand the point Steve. As the car is lowered the track rod angle changes and this alters the alignment slightly.

Not many places actually measure camber anyway. I doubt lowering just 30-40mm does much to it, and i doubt many N15s came out the factory with perfect camber measurements either.

1-2* negs camber on the front wheels can favourably alter the way a car handles at the expense of slight increase in tyre wear. The best you can do is set the toe to factory spec or for fast road/track a very slight toe-in gives better straight line stability.......or get some camber plates, bolts, ghetto drill the top mount holes to get the camber back to OE spec. For a daily runner i probably wouldn`t want so much neg camber, but for my set-up its fine.

tyre keep wearing on inside front end

hi everyone ,new to this place.
problem i've got is my almer2.2 sport plus keeps wearing tyres on the inside edge, keep having the tracking done with latest kit but the wear keeps coming back. had it checked today and the guy said the tracking was out but if changed would cause more wear because the wheels looked fareley true, also changed tyre size because there was not enough choice for the 16inch wheels, any thoughts what the problem could be because i've also had the car checked buy an ex nissan fitter saying every thing steering+suspension wise was ok:evil:
thanks

cant really help you on this one fella.

Coming ack to this thread though, i managed to find some camber bolts from Whiteline, ding dang doo :)
