Help with Lowering springs PLEASE!

Hey all,

I have a 1.4 N15 Phase 1, and I want to get some lowering springs soon.

However, many websites show the springs for a P1 and a P2 as different proucts.

My understanding was that the chassis of the two (P1 & P2) are identical it's just the cosmetic parts (bumpers, lights, interior) which make the difference.

This technicality wouln't bother me if it wasn't for the fact that the springs for the P2 usually go around 5mm lower than the ones quoted for being for the P1. And I want it lowered 40mm rather than 35mm.

Maybe the shocks on the P2 are uprated or the suspension components are different to allow for the greater lowering, I don't know.

If you could shed some light on whether it matters if I buy springs designed for the P2, I would muchly and highly be in your debt.

Cheers!

phase 1 and phase 2 shocks and springs are different mate, you need to match the right spings with the right shocks
or you can put phase 2's on yours but you'd need phase 2 shocks aswell

if you did put phase 2's on your phase 1's your front end would be lower than the back and you'd need to chop a bit of the spring off the rears to get it to sit in the cup properly

Thanks for the response guys! I know that it's alot of hassle for the sake of 5mm, but I'm on a budget. Looks like I'll just have to spend slightly more.

NICE!

take no notice of what drop the springs say about how much the drop, all springs for the almera drop roughly the same=not much/enough, some cheaper ones will drop more after they've collasped

If you`re on a real budget get some 2nd hand standard phase 2 GTi springs. They`ll be stiffer than lesser models, the front springs are shorter than phase 1s so will give a 3-4cm drop then just cut one coil off the rear spring to make it seat properly on the strut ( and lower it ).

Cutting springs is a bit of a `taboo` subject to some so i wouldn`t recommend it, although i had a similar set-up a few yrs ago with no problems.

Know this is an old post but just need bit of help guys. I've been offered a set or Monroe shocks with lowering springs. They're from a P1 GTI. I want these badboys but not sure if fit etc and what ride height will be on my P2 SRI . Reading above, P2 has a lower stance than P1? or something like that? Springs on 40mm ebachs. Any help greatly appreciated.
