I bought what said on reg doc an Almera 1.4 GX last week on 02 plate. but when I tried to get insurance was told they weren't made after 2000. Checked on websites and found t his is true. However, checked with DVLA and they say this is what they have it as and wanted me to get proof fron Nissan what car itreally is, However, Nissan say they have no record of it. Son who works in garage says its definitely a post 2000 model. Did an RAC status check (cost £25!) which told me private plates were put on it in July this year then original (I assume!) plates put back on in August. Nissan said car may be an import, but check showed no evidence of this. VIN number matches the reg number, but the new MOT put on by garage when I bought it says approx year of first use 1998, while the Nissan warranty booklet says it started in Dec 01, 7 months before it was first registered? Anyone got any idea what could have happened? DVLA ays to send them all the discrepancies, but I dont know where to get proof that the model is wrong, or find out what model it is .I think its a 1.5 S from the spec.

can you put up a picture of the car? just to see if it is an n15 or n16, stopped producing the n15 around 99-00 but the 1.4gx was an n15 model and not an n16. definately something strange going on here, maybe when the plates have been changed back the DVLA have messed up, maybe when the MOT was done the reg on the private plate would fit with it being a 1998 car so thats whats been put on the certificate.

if you havent got a picture then if it looks like mine its an n15, if it doesnt then its an n16 which is the newer shape. possible the DVLA have had 2 almeras details in front of them and got them mixed up when they have been changing the plates over, hopefully its that and not something illegal

cant be a 1.5 s. this engine comes with the N16 almera. from what you are saying you have an n15 almera. if you post a picture then people will be able to tell you what it is. also thought registartion plates cannot be newer then the car. i.e 99 s plate car cannot have its plate changed to a 53 plate. if that makes sense. may be wrong

Very strange indeed. It could be like Sprint said and they re-registered it wrong after the plate changes but it could be something more sinister. Although I doubt it is the latter considering the DVLA have it down as a 1.4GX too, which leads me to believe the V5 is not dodgy (there is a good way to check that too, PM me if you want to know).

Thanks for the replies. It is the newer shape and I think that DVLA have made mistake, but cant understand why it's not on Nissan's database as it was bought in this country and previous owner bought from new. I am sending copies of everything I have to DVLA, plus a print out from a webpage giving date of manufacture of 1.4 GX, which may convince them that its NOT a 1.4 GX, but wont satisfy them as to what model it is. My husband says that as DVLA have documented it as manufactured and registered in 2002, I shouldn't worry about what model it is, but I want to know and sure it will affect re-sale value (though I'll probably trade it in in couple of years anyway). It's just annoying!!And , as you say , there's a possibility something isn't right. My hubby says that as I'm worried,to take it back and ask for money back, but I can't prove if it's dodgy or not.
I will take photo tomorrow to post here. Thanks once again.

By the way, the private plate number started with a T, so that would be 98, wouldn't it?

I havent read through the majority of the post so sorry if this is irelevant, you're sure the car didnt just sit on the forecourt for a year or two before it was registered or w/e?

Sorry, got home late last night and too dark to take photos and too tired to log on. Ihave taken some pics so am going to attempt to post them.

Sorry, couldnt get whole car in one photo as I was attacked by garden plants and had to avoid the droppings of the local cats who think our gravel on the hardstanding is a giant litter tray just for them. Any one got any tips on that particular problem ( I am against guns, by the way!!)
Thumbnails can be enlarged by clicking. Any help on what particular model car is would be welcome.

Regards

Val

Thanks for the speedy reply. So its definitely not a 1.4 GX then. Apparently it's not rare for DVLA to mess up (like the cats in my garden really). A friend of mine told me her Ford Ka's V5 has the manufacturer as Vauxhall!

Thanks again.

You're right Merc, the 1.4GX was only in production until 2000, that's what first got all this started. I can prove to DVLA that the '1.4 GX' stated on the V5 is incorrect, but I haven't got proof of what car it is, as there are no letters on the car. I'm pretty sure its a 1.5 S myself, but don't know how to convince DVLA. I havent been able to get verification fron Nissan as they dont have a record of it.

Could you not just take it to a dealer and ask them to write a letter stating what it is and sign it?

Or keep insuring it as a 1.4gx, if insurance is cheaper

The funny thing is that CIS (my insurers ) originally said that it couldnt be a 1.4GX if it was an 02 car, and also said they couldnt find it from the number plate. When I went back to them a day later they didnt ask what style it was , just the model. Then I had two insurance docs through, one with 1.4 GX, year of manufacture 2000, then a day later another one that said it was a 1.5S, year of manufacture 2002. I'll send DVLA a copy of the second insurance certificate and see if that's enough to get it changed. I feel better about it now that I know it's definitely the newer model. I was so worried about it being dodgy that I couldn't take to the car at first, but in the last couple of days I've really enjoyed driving it, even going the long way round to some of my destinations (I work in schools in far-flung parts of Caerphilly county) just so I can drive it a bit longer!!
