Help!!!!!

just went to MOT with my car and fail on emission. I am on fully standard exhaust.

The bit fail is on fast idel and the lambda is over the limit. Is it mean i need a lambda sensor or can i just do a quick tune.

please help!!!!

Ello mate

it may well be just a lamba sensor throwing the emmisons out , could be any number of silly things, if you had accesss to a consult or conzult you can check the o2 lamba sensor for operation, if in doubt you can swop it over and see

other things to check ,

could be the airflow meter , make sure the element is clean and in tacked , to be fair there a wearing item like the lamba sensor, could give it a quick clean with some carb , or brake cleaner and wipe the element carfully

check for split vacum hoses ,
exhaust blows , beleave it or not it will suck air in and mess up the readings by ventrue effect just check for blowing any where and seal

oh and make sure its got a cat on it , not a straight pipe , or someone has previoulsy smashed it out ? dunno how long uve had the car, also they can crack over time if uve had a ignition fault and it burn fuel in the cat

check the basics first mate , then work on to the more difficult things to check ,

it will be something silly , and like you say just a lamba sensor

let us know how u get on regards Dan

Thsi is my old car.

The main cat is in place still. The front pipe was replaced with one without a pre-cat...it passed for me with this set-up.
I also cleaned MAF while i had it.

I`m sure if the engine is hot enough, it`ll pass. Changed the air filter element rescently?

Trackmera can nearly pass with no cats.

It went thought last year but not this. i have attach the failture list on emission and do anyone know if i need a lambda sensor. I have spoken to one of the guy who fix car at my town (not garage cos they dont open on saterday) and he have a look on the sheet and just told me i need a new lambda sensor and he will give me a quote on monday. but i am not 100% sure it is that issue so anyone can help would be greatful.

here are the emission sheet:

I havent change anything apart from the front and rear light and the grille so i havent change the air filter.

Oh BTW there are a advisory on my mot saying that centre exhause has a minor leak of exhaust gases. will that be the possible for that?

Thanks all of you!!!!!!!

Hi.
Your CO and HC levels are way too low. Lambda is too high which means one thing. A leak in the exhaust. Which you have. If the emissions were checked just after the cat I am 100% sure they would be okay. The excess oxygen is because of the leak.

Repair the exhaust and get an MOT pass. DO NOT replace the lambda without doing this first.

Let us know.
Andy.

Hello mate , As his gent and i said to you in the long post , check the exhaust for leaks it can be as simple as that lol

I used to work for nissan and own my own workshop now , fix the leak and then run it nack to the mot station and ask them nicely if they could quickly check the emmisions for a drink if it still fails clean the MAF with carb cleaner and stcik a lamba sensor in it , Good luck Dan

Yep, agree with that. Except the lambda bit. A simple multimeter test on the output wire of the o2 sensor will quickly determine its switching frequency and voltage sweep and possibly save you a few quid. The famous trade secret Forte advanced gas treatment and forte oil flush work absolute wonders for emissions as long as the exhaust has no leaks!! Try to get a genuine lambda sensor if it needs it-aftermarket patterns are sometimes unreliable.
If you want to get technical an oscilloscope and a well trained person can pick up faulty sensors in double quick time.

Good luck.
Andy.

my fingers were itching to write that andy lol, but i didnt fancy all the questions , multimeter , scope wires lol

nice to speak to someone with comman know how ! Dan

I fix the exhaust issue and went for a retest yesterday after work. I went there 20 mins before they shut.

The bloke in there is well cool. it put the emission test on my exhaust and not even ref the car and let me pass the MOT.

now i know what time to renew my MOT next time lol !!!!!!!

but Cheers to everyone anyway. i can have my GTi for another year at lease!!!!!!!
