Hey

Hey,

I had the 1.4 Action (1997) which got written off (not my fault thankfully) and have just bought a P reg 2.0 GTi instead. All I can say is what a car. Just thought I would say hello to everyone.

First thing im looking at is a couple of minor improvements, painting calipers, some caliper decals (if I can find some im happy with), new wipers, blades and arms (the ones on now are in bad condition). After xmas I would be looking at new wheels (17s of course) and new discs and pads since I'll be taking it down to santa pod. I would like to replace the lights with some nice clusters (anyone know where I can get these for the 97 model?).

I will have some pics up on my website soon, when I do I'll get a link on here.

:welcome: hiya dude hope ya find the forum helpful. caliper paint you might aswell use hammerite and the decales i think you can get off ebay depending what you want, dont know about wipers i could do with some new ones my self.

Welcome to the site mate. You'll find it very helpful... I know I have!

As far as rear lights go, the only replacements for your car would be phase 2 clusters from a '98-'00 model, but not many people are willing to part with them unfortunately :( , and don't quote me on this, but I think Nissan have stopped making them

Nissan dealers, Halfrauds or local motorists centres would be you best bet from wipers. Personally, I went for the single wiper conversion from http://www.bansheemotorsport.co.uk/...d=345&osCsid=8b4af22e9af68c511d2425c753c3c281 and I think it suits the car very well.

Brakes-wise, I chose Black Diamond drilled and grooved discs and pads From www.needforspeed.co.uk. They cost £400, but they stop you quick, when you need to! However, there is cheaper alternatives on there to choose from.

Hope this has helped, and have fun on the site.

Welcome to the site mate!! :D

Hmmm I fancy a 2.0 Gti if i can get a better salary  watch this space lol

Does it wheelspin for fun ? :)

U must of shat urself when u first got in the Gti.... specially from driving a 1.4....

I did after part ex'ing my Ibiza... and the mera only had 25bhp more lol

Ha, you think my initial transition was bad, well i'm still learning to drive, got my test on monday. Failed once already for wheelspinning in second gear (in a citroen c4 as well :)) Was in a rush to get away after a bad corner but hey, was a cool way to fail.

And yeah, my god I love the power, trying to get through 3rd gear in the 1.4 seems to take forever, in the GTi, DAMN. Off to santa pod after xmas so will get to test this for real.

So if your around west yorkshire/rochdale area and you see a shiny red 2.0 GTi with L plates, thats me :D Stay back, not quite got my hillstarts perfect everytime yet.

Not done any wheelspinning (on purpose) yet 'cause i've got to have someone else with me and they get nervous.

Ordered my caliper paint now (£20 for a painting kit), asked if this company could do me some custom vinyl caliper transfers (Almera for the rear calipers and 2.0 GTi for the front) but he said it would cost a fortune so he wouldnt do them :(

Take care in your new GTi. You`ll probably think your the best driver in the world when you`ve past, so don`t end up down a ditch or in a tree.

 :rasp:  :rasp:

Farkin hell..... Your still a learner ?

The way you spoke about ur car being wrote off was as if you got rear ended or sumthin on a general drive to the missus' :O

Wow.... Yeah man, i agree ... take things easy in ur GTi... Best of luck for your test too man :D Hope you pass.....!!!!

How old are ya anyway ? Just thinkin of insurance like :(

:) Dont worrry I'll be careful. Been driving at least 2 hours a night this week as well as driving 30 mins to and from work everyday. Just come back from 4 1/2 hours straight practice. Costing a farking fortune in petrol, im getting 30mpg on average.

I did get rear ended :( Was driving to my grandads and some idiot in a 4x4 wasnt looking at the road, so as I stop at red lights he didnt even brake :(

Thats the second major crash i've been in as well, in my instructors car some guy on the other side of the road got rear ended and flew accross the road into me :( again not my fault.

I'm 23 and the insurance is a killer, my 1.4 was 1100 for the first year (still no NCB yet since I only got it in march), my first year in my GTi would be 2100 but since im transferring I only had to pay 203 extra (it's a 10 month bonus accelerator with Elephant).

Thanks for the warm welcome guys :D

Woohoo :D no more L plates, took and passed my test today (well yesterday now, just got back from clacton where I took the test). Couldnt believe it, got 6 minors, was wicked :D cant wait to drive myself to work in the morning. Now for pass plus :) gotta try and find myself an instructor :)

CONGRATULATIONS MATE!!!

I done the pass plus like, brought my insurance quote down by £600!!!! worth doing (just to bring your premium down...)

Dont mean to brag, but i got 3 minors.... in a 1.2 Fiesta  lol

Again....

WELL DONE !! :D

Well done mate and welcome to the club!!
The Almera is a great choice of car.
There's some awsome examples on this site.
Best of luck with it and see you around :D

Get your pass+ mate, its only £100 and it will save you more than that in insurance.
