hi all, running boost and need some info :D

hello,

im wondeing if anyone could help me, im sorry to say i dont fully own a almera but........i do own the engine of one :D and im in the process of putting it into my micra, its an almera ga16 engine with 32000 on the clock.

im going about running some boost and i could do with some info if you kind fellas dont mind helping me out

first i'll start with the bhp figures on stock internals...what can it take and what to get bhp wise ect ect.
i also would like to know what injectors you run them on and what you do about the fuel pump?
next is the clutch if it needs to be changed?
do i need colder plugs?
can the OE flywheel be macheaned to be litend & blanced, or if anyone knows where i can get one of the shelf and the same with some perfomance ht leads?
and anything elce in genral i should be aware of.

with the micras may of the parts can be changed for outher OE parts in the engine i.e crank, pistons, cams from bigger cc engines, can the same be done with the ga16. by this i mean can i use the cams lets say from the 2.0L and the same with the pistons and crank to gain more bhp or is it aftermarket parts to be used.

just to give you guys some info, im going to be runnig a custom log manifold, t25, fmic. just the usual realy managed by the tec-edge wide band and Greedy e-manage

i'll give thanks in addvance for any info guys as i'll be pop'n in and out and i'll update on the build if anyone wants to follow it

kind regards, martin

Welcome :). Unfortunatly to view that thread Martin you need to be a paid member. But I'm sure someone in the know will be along shortly to inflict their knowledge on you :).

Sorry dude, SR20 parts in general wont fit.

COV is building a prototype GA17DE though, high compression N/A.

injectors - as far as we are aware, there is no direct fit replacement. you would need to track down a B13 sentra fuel rail from the US, which isnt an easy thing to find.

Flywheel - simply, you cannoy lighten it. its been said on many forums thats there is just no tolerance on the GA16 fly's, you can buy a fidanza fly from Gspec or US ebay. same for clutch, US ebay.

as for boost. dale got 200bhp before it kicked the bucket. only uprated parts were the rod bolts.

Free Tip

Martin, OBX have started producing Turbo manifolds for the QG/GA engine.

cheers for that lads, bit of a shame that you carnt mix and match parts eh

 at the fly, i can not believe it carnt be machined  as i do all this kind of work myself.

as for the manifold i'll be makeing my own custom log manifold and exhaust.

so will it be ok to just bolt the turbo on and go without changeing anything? eg. plugs, clutch, ht leads. if this is the case what psi/bar would safely be max i could run on the ga16

thanks agen lads

honestly, you've picked the wrong engine to turbo.

there is only one turbo'd GA16 (that we know of) in the UK

nobody knows anything bout these engines.

the yanks know a lot, but its a different engine tbh...

afraid your kinda on your own

afraid your kinda on your own

I dont think this is the case mate..

The engine basically a larger CG engine.

Its not hard to turbo these things

STEP ONE

Get a manifold ( Make or buy ) ( if making, take into condideration what turbo you are going to use - oil inlet/outlet etc )

STEP TWO

Get injectors.. and rail to suite larger injectors ( Make or buy ) I sell Rails that suit this engine and fit side feed 256cc/370cc and beyond injectors..

£95 - 256cc with rail
£150 - 370cc with rail

STEP THREE

Decide on a turbo and intercooler.. and Source these.

T25 and a Small alloy alloy 2.5'' inlet and outlet to suit the front bumper is ideal.

STEP FOUR

Source oil feeds and return, and BOV and managment. and some fresh oil, filter and some colder plugs..

Emanage or SAFC or somthing else.. suitable for only 5/6 psi..

No need to worry about clutches or flywheels or anything not at that power.. worry about these later.

I can supply an oil feed if you want.

STEP FIVE

Install..

Get exhaust made up to suite.

I think what RAJackson meant was that theres no definative answer to the limits of the Uk spec GA16 engine.

I know these engines inside out, but as for their power limitations, it seems a bit hit and miss and good tuning is critical once you start pushing them.

I do know the clutches are pap though, so change it.

before you start messing with a turbo get the engine in the car and running first.. trust me it wont be easy just throwing it in there..

once its in and runnign and you have all the niggles work out and you have the suspention and brakes up to a point they can handle the cast iron lump now sat in the front of your car.. then look at turboing it.. once its in and sorted it will be 10 times easyer to sort out rather than making it 10 times harder to install the engine with a turbo ast the same time..
