Hi all, tuning advise required

Hi everyone I have an almera n15 gti and a budget of around £500, just wondering what mods give the best bang for buck? I don't mind biding my time for used items to come along to help keep cost down, nor do I mind doing work myself eg advancing timing etc, also has anyone had any joy with getting flywheel lightened by a machine shop or is this not worth doing? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

With that budget even if you can do the work yourself you're not likely to get massive performance gains so better to make what you have more fun to use.

A decent set of used coilovers would be my first choice.

Spend any leftover cash on underseal, better quality consumables (tyres, bulbs, air filters etc) and cheap styling and comfort tweaks.

Decent manifold and exhaust for my money. Bang-for-buck best gains hands down. Add a decent panel filter and ignition advance to 17 degrees. Coil overs are a good shout as well. Very tunable engine but is definitely sort the base tuning first.

Stainless Manifold/downpipe + pod filter would be my first choice engine wise on a limited budget. As for flywheel, depends on how much it can be safely lightened and how much it would cost, might be better going for a 12lb xtd flywheel.I would of said catback also to make most of the mani and filter, but probably cost a lot.

Morning Ben

with a green cotton panel filter, advance timing 19', and a touch more fuel pressure i made 155bhp on a dyno jet rolling road for reference. so add to this a eBay stainless steel exhaust manifold and downpipe and you should see over 160bhp.

the above would cost you no more than £180 for new/used parts and with the rest, i would wait for a set of used coilovers on the forum to come up.

things like brakes, tyres, wipers, bulbs and over service bits need to be replace as and when.
