Just like to inform you about a possible major problem with your car as i too have a 1.5i Almera - after 62k of normal driving the gearbox packed in...
If you hear like a "supercharger-type" high pitched whine that starts to disappear as you get quicker then get it checked out pronto - better paying bout £200ish for a new bearing and fitting rather than an extra £500-£600 for a second hand box from a scrappy's on top of the £200 so i'd watch out for that...
