Hi Almera sport owner

Hi
First of all hi to you all
Could anybody help me with problem I have, any pointers or where to start would be much appreciated

I have a W 2000 1.8 almera sport
Love the car but about a month ago the car rev counter would flop up and down eratically when could but then sorted itself out after it was warmed up but now about a week ago the engine light came on and it now does it pretty much constant at any speed or in any gear, also its running pretty bad jumpy and slugish

Any ieads or experience with this?

looked at a few forums that say it could be timing chain which caused me to panic at the £800 plus job which i just havnt got

again any help is much appreciated

Regards

chain sems to be more common on the 1.5s, on the 1.8 try cleaning or replacing the MAF, check the coil packs for cracks or oil/water in the plug holes, if no good, whip the cam cover off, and have look at the chain tensioner, if the piston is sticking out about 10mm then its the chain.....actually probably best to check this first :lol:

Cheers and welcome :)

the engine management light came on?? if so read the codes first it may tell you what the problem is before you have to fart around doing summit you probably dont need to do in first place. may just be a dodgy sensor

you can buy the cable and software for a laptop on ebay....OBDII diagnostics....or just pop into your local family run garage...mine read fault codes for tenner....nissan want £60!

will look at getting the codes read but in the meantime how do i go about cleaning the maf sensor or how do you even disconnect the cable to it?

Thanks

to unplug the connector simply push the green bit with arrow on it, all the way in, it should click and then gently pull it off :)

Dont know about others, but i just used a very soft bristled paint brush. Make sure you get into gaps as that mainly where the shit gathers :)

got my code reader:

p0335 = crank position sencer A circ
p0135 = co2 sensor 1
p0141 = co2 sensor 1

any ideas of next move?
this this look like timing chain stretch?
regards

don't hold me to this but i'm sure that nissan had a recall on almera's regarding crank sensoers. Mine had something like that changed but mines a 1.5. Maybe the same problem?

problem diagnosed
garage had rocker cover off chain looked ok, then he wound the engine through cycle by hand and when it was at top end the chain was like 25+ mm below the top tensioner like a big smile lol
anyway then come the hot sweats of the £500 - £600 plus repair bill, anyway a few phone calls later mechanic returned with prices:

chain and tensioners fitted inc vat £322
chain and tensioners and both pullys inc vat £361
I went for the pullys aswell not worth the chance for £40 and I pick car up on saturday morning so will let you know how it goes
thanks

I'm glad your car is all sorted mate. I'm afraid it will happen to my car so I change my oil every 6 months regardless of mileage to try avoid this problem.

Yes agreed, to be honest I put some blame on myself for negleting oil changes ect , but knowing what I know now then oil will be getting done every 7-8k miles
