Hi there,

We own a 2000 N16 Almera (the newer shape but not the latest facelift).

Yesterday whilst my wife was driving it the Engine Malfunction Light started flickering on and off and there was a terrible loss of power, she said the light only stayed off between about 2500 and 3000 RPM but the car was still gutless. When she got home I had a quick look and it idles VERY lumpily and struggles to stay running, theres also what appears to be a very light knocking noise that I haven't noticed before. When you switch off the ignition there is an odd sucking noise, kind of like when you suck liquid through a straw.

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Dave

if it idlles 'lumpily' and struggles, it could be the air flow meter..
and if its making an odd sucking noise, could it be the fuel pump or something!?

Thanks for the reply :)

I'll try unplugging the AFM and see if it makes any difference. I've got a mate hopefully lending me his CONSULT box tonight to check it as well but any other suggestions greatly appreciated :)

Where does the fuel pump live on these btw? Is it in-tank or in-line?

Dave

Right, turns out it was running on 3 cylinders.

I took all the spark plugs out and one of them stunk of fuel and was manky as hell. I switched 2 of the coil packs around and the problem moved with one of the packs so at least I know what it is now.

Anyone know where I can get an Almera 1.5s coilpack from other than Nissan??
