hi guys, i'm a new user and owner!

hi people, just bought a nissan almera 1.5 SVE and can't wait to drive it. my last car was a fiat punto and it was the pits. this car is kitted out with loads of toys. anyways, i have a few questions and please bare with me, i am a newbie with cars and this site.

i notice the car has a DVD-ROM unit built in with a rom containing the map data. can this dvd unit play DVD-Videos or is it just roms? if no, can i take the unit out and replace it so it does play all optical media (ie cd's, dvd's, dvd-audio).

many thanks. look forward to a response.

Welcome to the club. The DVD ROM is just for the (discontinued) map data disks as far as I know.

Not sure if any manufacturers would put a DVD movie player in the dash in case they got sued when someone inevitably hits a tree watching it.

I think the screen unit is tied into other systems like security and is a pig to replace. Someone who has first-hand experience will no doubt be along soon with the details.

It wouldn't be easy to get the screen to display anything other than what it's designed to do. That being said it can play video as I think there are video inputs for the reversing camera that the primera p12 has.

As for Nav data discs, they are still updated, I have 2011 data discs here (and I sell them if you're interested!)

Most people seem to want to rip the entire system out and replace it with aftermarket stuff but I'm determined to do it the other way!

Hope some of this helps!

Just a map update Vspec, not a program update unfortunately so no it won't do post code still :/
