Hi lads whats the best way to take a small bit of rust of the arches

Hi, lads i have 97 Gti all is in perfect condition but just over the back wheel arches there is a bit of rust and its not that noticable i can cover it up with some paint of something but i want it gone just for my own peace of mind and im just wondering which is the best way to get rid of it and if i brought it to a garage how much do you think they would charge..?Thanks :)
 
Bodyshop might end up costing a lot, depends really. I did my own (Not very well mind, but a lot better than the rust) ages ago, used an angle grinder with wire brush attachment, some sandpaper, filler, primer, car paint and lacquer followed by a t-cut and wax. Took an afternoon.
 
Hi mate welcome. Corbs is spot on and so is Bandit. You can most prob do it yourself depending how good ya are. I'm gonna do mine next week when weather better and have week off work :-)
 
When I had the GTi I went to a body shop for a quote & it was £70 an arch to sort out the rust treat it and respary which I thought was not too bad...

i could fix it for £30 cost of suplies - so from then on it would purely be labour costs if that any help when you getting quotes

other than that if you dfo some work yourself it can be cheaper aswell.

if you sand it to bare metal - remove any particle of rust - aswell as treat the area and let it have a good nibble. clean it all up and use anti rust primer -

then just get them to finish it off if your not happy to spray it!

is easy though

gona set about mine soon as well this winter has really taken its toll. the front and back arches are looking a bit worse for wear now. gutted!
 
you all have to come up to me first :P

and i need to get the 3 cars that i have in at the moment out first - plus i just taken a vectra in the wants a back quater and rear section putting on and spraying. lol

mega busy at moment!

if people PM me with what they want etc i can more than sure look at it thats not a problem at all!
