Hi, new potential 2.0 GTI almera owner here

Hi, i am going to look at a 2.0 L Nissan Almera GTI 1997 today

Ill admit I wanted a MK3 Golf GTI but the one I wanted just sold but my question is,

What is faster in general, a Almera GTI or Mk3 2.0 GTI?

Have seena few Almeras round here and most go like rockets, your opinions?

AT the moment I have a 1.6 16v vectra but want a GTI now,

Want something that does go like a rocket really, will I get that out of a 2.0 GTI almera??

ALso looking to put a performance chip on in a few months

Well it'll certainly outperform a golf..
My 1.6 Almera made a Mk2 Golf GTi look silly.
So I'd say a GTi would be satisfactory for you.
There's quite a lot of cheap performance parts available also.
and a Performance chip?
Joe

Its a project car for me really, want to get as much out of it performance wise as possible.

Can you suggest any good MODs, not amazingly expensive either that will boost Hp?

First one i say would be the stainless steel manifold and header. Made a massive difference in sound and helped the top end power! Then get a cat back exhaust system in.

yeh golfs are heavy, GTi mera will sort one out no problem.

yeh basic breathing mods will make the car feel a lot more lively and gain you some horses.

plus golfs are common as muck, GTi meras arent :D

So far Im thinking a K and N air filter to start with, it already has a big ass like rocket exhaust on it, noisy as hell but Ill probably install a new stainless one, are the double stand GTI exhaust better or he big round rocket type

stainless steel manifold and header, any cheap sites on the net to get this from and other almera parts? Easy to do?

K&N will be fine. its not the tailpipe that makes the difference on the exhaust matey, if you get an SSAC header (about £140) a decat and a custom made cat back system that will be the breathing mods sorted, these should see you around 155 ish bhp. after that you can get some cams for it, JWT S3R's being the common choice.

if you join up proparly there is a massive amount of information on here and the boys are very helpfull

As Wezz said for the mods.

Don't get caught up in the power figures they only tell a small part of the story, I bought a leon cupra (supposedly 40bhp more than the Gti) after my first (modded) gti but after 3 months gave it to the wife and bought another N15. The leon was slower, less responsive and the less said about the handling the better, perfect for shopping though.

ive just purchased a golf gti mk3, selling my mera. :(
the golf is so heavy and the handling is not as good neither, i must say it pulls better bottom end but my mera is alot faster. you feel like your in a old car too in the golf where as the mera has alot nicer interior imho.
i would definately have another mera when my finances are better, i love them to pieces, its a pleasure driving them, always put a smile on my face :D

Mk 3s are crap, I had a play with one on 17s, in my totally standard Qashqai a few weeks ago, & pissed all over it!

He was not happy when he found out it was the entry level 1.6. :point: :superlol:

haha its because golf owners always think they got the faster car;) they always underestimate japanese cars:)

btw does any of you know the best place to get a sr20de manifold and header?

and dannylatics im quiet a new almera owner, but have driven golfs alot. and i still think the almera is a better choice!

Manifold/header are two terms commonly used to describe the same thing mate,
The most common ones can be found on Ebay, for the £140 mark, search Almera GTi manifold.
