Hi!

Been looking for a reliable, fast and not overly expensive car recently to replace my E46 318i and I've stumbled across these Almera GTi Nissans :)

They look amazing, especially when tastefully modified...

I'm hearing great things about them!

How much would I be looking to spend on a decent, reliable one? and do I have to look for low mileage?

Thanks, guys

You dont have to spend alot to be honest mate to get a good one! Low milage on these aint that important the engines are solid and take a lot of abuse without many problems! Your main problem will be rust!

I suggest having a look at this one! http://www.almeraowners.com/showthread.php?t=32521 If i didnt have my gti id be buying this asap no rust 91 k miles which is low! and its cheap and worth the distance for you to travel to get it!

Yeah that one looks nice. Are they expensive to modify?
Unlike before these days parts are easier to come by. Really depends what your goals are, the more moderate mods like breathing parts are not expensive and are usually shared with other Nissans like the U.S. Sentra B14, JPN Pulsar, even the Sunny GTiR has some compatible parts (Struts/Brake setup).

Check my sig for the more extreme mods.

Welcome to AOC.

Well, I'm repairing / breaking m BMW and selling it, then I'll be getting a GTi ;)

I was looking at 306 GTis too but they seem quite unreliable. My friend had one and it was QUICK, felt great to be pinned into your seat (that sounds a bit gay) but his keeps breaking down (electrical faults).

The Almera GTi is actually faster 0-60 than the 306 GTi I think, so I should get that same speed feeling with the added reliability ;)

I'm very excited. Hoping to get a black one with body kit and maybe tint the windows :)

I also had a Pug, a 205 1.9 GTi. Again was quick, as was light, but not reliable and hard to work on as the engine was beneath other bits !
If you're looking for something similar to a 306 GTi, then you can't go wrong with a 'Mera GTi, and there are plenty of helpful guys ans gals here.

Do the right thing, you know it makes sense ! (Rodders)

LOL, yes it certainly does make sense.

Decent speed and amazing reliability, also cheap to buy!

I have to ask - what's the catch? :o

Plenty of underseal and keeping the drain holes clear. Common places are arches (inner/outer), sills, if its been jacked on the chassis rails they crunch, and little bits. Find a clean shell and you are sorted.

Yeah, well... will be a few weeks before I'm looking to buy :)

Hopefully an owners club member will be selling a low mileage, black, body kitted Almera GTi then ;) haha (rust free, of course)

'Salright, loden green though (The cursed colour!) and the front splitter has been smashed off as is normal for a P1.

The only real problems with the 306 gti is the cambelt has to be changed every 30k and if it smaps, even after repairs most of them are very tappy.

Electrically wise its just small things like door loom wires / fuses.

I think the Almera is the better car, though.

I mean, it's quicker, cheaper, more reliable and with a few tasteful mods I think it looks equal to the Pug :)

OK, I have the money - I'm now looking to buy!

Want to spend around £900-£1200 and I want a good, rust free GTi in black!

Any advice is greatly appreciated and I intend on becoming an official owners club member as soon as I buy! :)

Oh, and could anyone help me with the differences between P1 and P2 GTis? What year is best to go for, etc

Thanks
