How to remove original radio from 1997 N15

Hi,

Ive just brought a 97 Almera, and want to change the original radio. Can anyone tell me how to get it out without damaging any of the trim??

Cheers

Its pretty simple. Just undo the 2 screws on the centre console (The middle bit of the dash where the radio and heater controls are). Then shove a flathead screwdriver in between the centre console and the dash at the top and lever it to pop the clips. The centre console should also unclip at the bottom, near the ashtray. You should be able to access the cage the radio sits in, bend the prongs holding it in place so it slides out, and bobs your uncle!
Alternatively you can use the knife down the sides method but if its clipped in top and bottom as well you cant get to those clips.

Will be clipped top and bottom if it's a sony original one for definite, I think the non-sony tape player in my 1.4Si was also a centre surround off job.

It's really not difficult, it will however feel like it's going to break but don;t worry, the clips are in very tight it's normal to feel a bit dodgy.

They standard ones don't come in cages...

Undo the two screws on the centre console, use a spatula to prise the trim off. You'll then see 4 screws, 2 on either side of the headunit, undo these and it'll come straight out.

Remember to take off these brackets from the original radio onto the new one you're putting in.

Mine had the 2 brackets. And you might want to take the ash tray out before pulling the center console off. Maybe P1s have a brackets, P2s have a cage?

pretty sure with almeras being made in Japan they were shipped over without radios, then it was down to the dealers to fit what they wanted to a point, so whatever was going cheap and fitted in whatever way made more sense to the person fitting them, all seem to be a sony of some variety though. sure it was Naylor that posted that somewhere, my brain remembers random facts, nothing useful but ah well

stock hu is a clarion. my 96 ph1 n15 was in with brackets. more secure than a cage and less easy to nick.... unless they know what they are doing.

My Clarion ones all seemed pretty good tbh, left the fronts for ages as they worked quite well combined with JBL components in the back. Only got rid of because i blew one of them.
