Make sure the pic is about 800 pixels wide max then in the advanced reply bit click the manage attachments, browse for the pic and upload it.
 
Funny isn't it, I managed to post pics of my car in my first couple of post, yet I have been a registered user since February and I only figured out how to put a pic next to my profile two days ago.
