Hi chaps and chapesses.

We live near Derby and own an 04 plate standard 1.5 SE extra Almera 5 door in a sort of light metallic blue with nice 9 spoke alloys. It's our normal family runabout with no mods  as I used to have a Classic mini to play with ( I also hang around on www.minifinity.com ), but that's gone now to buy pushchairs, cots and nappys ( ! ).

I like the Almera, it's a car that does most things quite well. The rides a bit choppy but it's grippy and handles quite well but not particullary fluently, the engine lacks torque but it's easy to live with day to day, i'd like to change a few things though.....

I'd like to fit a K&N replacement element ( or similar brand ) to the almera, anyone know what part number fits and the best UK please to get them from, are there anygood proven mods to the exisiting induction system at all ?

Also it's coming up to tyre changing time, at present I have Dunlop SP Sport 195/55R16 87V fitted, are there anyother brands that do a tyre to fit that is better and/or cheaper !?

Another ! Are there any better head light bulbs available, because the lights are rubbish at night on un-lit or country roads, perhaps I can fit some front fog lights too ?

I also reakon some front 'mudflaps' would be a good thing too, as the tyres just kick all the dirt and water up the side of the car doors etc, what are the best type to get ?

Sorry there are so many questions.... :O

Many thanks,

Rob.

Try www.mytyres.co.uk for different brands, by putting in your tyre size and rating.

I use Halfords Rally bulbs, theyre very bright and not road legal (so it says) but they are pretty good and i dont know anyone whos been stopped for using them. Other than that, Halfords Xenon bulbs

1.5 SE extra Almera 5 door

THAT must he some extra...

GA14DE and GA16DE are the only "small" engines in europe... So this car is imported from Japan??

Silverstar works good.!!

Thanks so far guys.

The SE extra is what our local Gordan Lamb Nissan dealer called it. It's an SE but with a few extra added bits apparently like reversing sensors and 16" alloy wheels etc etc. I could never understand what was surposed to be 'standard' anyway.....??!!

It a fairly late model so presume it's a N16 1.5 engine ?

What is 'Silver star'?

This is my main criticism with this car - not enough pull and to get some you gotta razz the nuts of it... It's a VTEC/Neo VVL try hard but not even slightly :(

In all honesty get a BMC style induction kit or import a CAI system from America - better than a K&N in everyway except replacing foglights and i aint sacrificing vision for go fasterness...

I've got BFGoodrich Tyres on mine and they're dumper truck size!! Try to get lower profile tyres (i.e 205/45/R16) and the 2050 part at the start - a great thing if you dont wanna kurb your wheels BAD!! Other than the size of the things they're fantastic

The standard nissan one's do just fine - i've got them and they're great :D might colour code them as well :P

halfords do a K&N air filter elemant mate! ive got one on mine, doesnt make it sound any different but i think its helping the engine out!
