Induction kit Stall

Hi all, i recentley bought a K&N 57i induction kit for my 1.4 SI almera and was very impressed with the difference it made. Alot more responsive and picks up better at higher speeds. But and yes here's the but, the car will stall if you let it idle when moving. For example, if im traveling at say 50mph and put the car in nuetral the car will stall with out hesetation. If the car isnt moving and just idling it is fine, it revs ok and will settle fine when i come of the throttle. Now the induction kit filter sits right on top of the throttle body, the 2 breather pipes go into it and i have a flexi hose running to the front for the cold air intake. I fitted it exackly how the instructions described and have double checked everything. I also tried the flexi hose closer and further away from the filter. The recomended distance is 10cm which is exacly what it is at. The only other modification on the car is a remus exhaust back box. With the standard airbox back on all is fine again. It's not a major problem as normal driving the revs dont get that low enougth for this to happen, the only thing is if i had to make an emergency stop the engine would stall and il lose power steering:eek:. Thanks for reading this long post and i apreciate all reply's as awayse.

Cheers all

my old primera did exactlt the same, the only thing i could do to fix it was raise the idle slightly, but i made some pipework to move the filter behind the indicator in the wing and it cured itself, must be summit to do with the shorter pipework, hondas suffer the same without a rampipe

same thing happened to my old 1.4 as well, brought it to the mechanic and he cleaned the throttle body, seemed to have helped a little bit. have a look at the air flow meter and make sure that isnt damaged/disconnected

get a refund and then get a panel filter mate much better.. look at tommos SRi thread for making the airbox better..

The reason it might be stalling could be a weak fuel mixture. The filter will bring more air in but the fuelling may not be enough. It might be worth trying to up the fuel pressure slightly.

I put a filter down behind the front splitter with pipework up to the carb similar to houston, the only problem I have now is that it's slightly temperamental starting up. No idling problems at all, maybe this is the route you should take.
