induction question

just bought a new kit linky cos i don't think i was getting the most out of my k&n.

after doing a lot of searching everybody seemed to agree a sealed type box was best ducted out of the engine bay but these where pricey. so i decided to get a cross between them both.

after doing a lot of research on the best brands and power gains i found lots of good things about jetex.

anyway my question is if an induction kit is louder would i be right in thinking this is a bad thing as the air going through it is turbulent and not going efficiently going into the engine?

the k&n was loud and sounded mint but the jetex isn't but i have a lot more response at high revs and it just generally runs 10 times better?

so is quiter a good thing or am i full of poo?

I understand what you are saying and I've never really got my head around it myself. Air flow can be a very odd thing. Turbulent air can be a good thing but some may argue it isn't. It's hard to tell from a filter what gains you are getting. The only true way to find out is to put it on a R/R, then swap the filter and re run it !

well i've had the new one on for a day now and the diffrence is well noticable its the first time in a long time its hit 140mph so im well happy with it

The autech was crap with a few types of Induction kit, it was crap with a panel filter and cold air feed. It's best with standard airbox and pipe and a panel filter.

Odd

I am well interested...wat would you go for in terms of improvement, cost, ease of fitting?

got it off ebay brand new for £41 fittin was a easy k&n off jetex on and its gave me more top speed

the bmc boxs are pricey couldn't afford one :(

What about temperature sensors, and the like? Mine is an N16, btw

ok from what im seeing in that linky that filtet is sucking air from both the bay and the feed pipe ?

does it filter the feed pipe as well casue it looks like it doesnt which would mean your getting unfilterd air but with no restictions at all so it will run better but you risk getting crap being sucked in cant see the point in it sucking from the bay tho as that would get rid of the need to have the air feed

my main worry with a closed induction kit is that I live in scotland so I have to find a way of avoiding it sucking bucketloads of water into the engine and buggering it.

you can buy a second filter type devive looks like a buldge in a pipe that alows air to be drawn in from higher up if it get heavy ie sucking water in large amounts ill try to find a pic but splank had one on his premera if you wanna ask him about it

its filltered from the pipe too ;)

in that case surly it will suck from the path of least resistance that would be the large fillter part in the bay not the pipe as it would have to draw air from further away

maybe your old filter needed a good clean they do form time to time use wd40 or some other kind of spray oil as long as its nice and fine
