insurance

Hi lads im 17 and i have a 2.0ltr gti can ye tell me the best way to get insured in it or put the mother on the policy and ur quotes or prices for insurance, ive been quoted 2,500 off hibernian thats about the best i got for third party, fire an theft do ye know any other ways to bring the insurance down as i dont wan2 get rid of the car and im sure ye know why, im living in ireland aswell..! Thanks:)

You normally have to be 21 to get decent quotes. there not alot you can do apart from pay it. Maybe have it in your mothers name and you a named driver that might be cheaper however its best having your own policy.

Bad idea, in the insurance world that's called a "fronted risk" and if you crash and they figure out the car is yours, the insurance is void.

You can try putting your mum on your policy, yes. apart from that, going third party only will maybe bring it down as well as lowering the number of miles you do.

really for your age that is a really good quote, a lad a know who is 17 has jus paid 2500 out for an old 1.4 corsa sport and that was just third party.

what i would do is put your mum on as an additional driver and then go out and buy a small fire extinguiser and declare it on your insurance and your policy will drop slightly just for having it in your car!

its also one of the reasons insurance is so high for young people...

State you have off road parking, or garaged parking is better bring it down a bit. Do you still have standard GTi alloys with it because if you change them back just for a year or so that will lower it after market alloys bump price up.
If they ask about body kit etc dont say it has one cos they will assume its aftermarket then try it, just say its standard as it came out the factory.
It has a alarm, imobiliser etc telling them that brings it down.

If you were older i'd say 'embellish the truth' a bit getting the policy. But as you're 17 I think you're at a relatively high risk of crashing it (no offence), so tell them the truth.

Cheapest way is prob to get it in your mum or dads name, you as a named driver.

Doesn't matter if you're not listed as the main driver, just always reffer to it as 'your parents car' when in comms with insurance co.

Use a web comparison site like confused.com to get the quotes - will save a lot of time cos most ins co's will just tell you 'no'.

cheers, fitz

Thanks for all the advice lads got my final quote of 2,400 which is not so bad as its my first car, but im not named driver just a name but hey i dont havta sell her :D happy days :D jus the petrol money to keep her goin lol

Bro is 18 and he has just paid out £2100 tpft so that does seem about right, think I was 18 when I got my first gti and I was paying about £1500 :)

If you go on as a named driver under your parents, make sure for the love of god, that you're actually living at the same address, and not for example, at university half way across the country. Some idiot did this, very stupid way and obvious to insurance companies you're fronting.
