Hi guys,
I'm having an issue with an intermittent fault with my N15 cutting out- I'll be driving along then it'll suddenly loose power for a few second, then kick back in again. It'll do this a few more times before constantly cutting out and loosing power- I have to stop the car and let it cool down for 15 minutes.
First had it cut out then kick back in on the motorway first weekend in November doing an overtake at 80, did this twice so I kept it under 80mph for the journey and thought no more of it. I had noticed the water level was low before I made the trip, so I topped it up with water and changed the coolant on the Monday.
Next week, the water pump gave up, temperature ran high and started spewing water all over, got a tow from the AA, water pump replaced, and seemed to be OK. But a few days later it cut out once then worked down to a standstill after about 15 miles driving. Turning the engine off and on again and the car ran normally.
It did it again last week after about 8 miles, I had 2 passengers and the one in the back said it really stank of fuel as the car died. I called the AA, who on arrival 15 minutes later, the car was fine. I drove back to York with the AA following me, and it ran fine. Left it with a garage who could not replicate the fault, and there are no fault codes in the computer.
Drove it 20 miles today, had to stop 3 times for 15 minutes a time to let it cool down to continue the journey, taken it to a garage near work- this garage found an intermittent fault on a previous car so I'm hoping they'll manage again. I'm thinking it's either an issue with fueling or air getting into the system.
However, if they don't find anything, anyone got any ideas? 'cause at the moment I've got a car that's next to useless, and I'm terrified the garage will hand it back saying they can't find the fault.
Thanks,
Dan
