Intermittent wipe problem

'53 reg N16

My wipers often move a few inches then stop until the next 'pulse' from the unit enables them to complete a full wipe.

I presume everything's got a little tired, but if I could extend the length of the pulse it would overcome the problem.

Anyone any idea where the unit that sends the pulse to the wiper motor's situated and if it's possible to make the pulse length longer?

Assume this is the same fault on the N15s, fire some electrical contact cleaner at the back of the plug on the wiper motor unit. I think its the earth that tends to get a bit gunked up over the years and causes the issue, the earth being the black wire (if the wires are visable).

I doubt if that's it. I fitted another wiper motor assembly (scrap yard sourced) and made sure all the connections were clean. I originally assumed it was the self-park mechanism, but the wiper motor's riveted together on N16s (unlike N15s). There's a good Youtube piece about sorting it (on Tinos I think). The electrical connection inside the self-park is a steel strip that rusts. I contacted the guy, but he'd no experience of N16s. Why are they all different!

It's a pig of a job getting to it, all sorts of stuff has to removed (broken) from under the w/screen scuttle.

On N15s, this is usually a problem with the 'wiper amp-assy' box under the dash. This regulates the variable intermittent wipers.

Not sure if its the same on an N16 but worth investigating.
