Irrelevant exhaust part or chassis brace?

If you look under the car there's a bit of metal that runs across the mid-section of the exhaust, after the car.

When fitting my backbox yesterday we took the mid-section off to cut it down and when we tried to remove said bit of metal one of the bolts sheared.

My question: is this what i think, i.e. just a bit of metal to stop the exhaust hitting the deck should the hanger fail, or is it an important chassis/body brace that means i'll now roll the car and die?

had this exact thing a couple of weeks ago mate. hope its nothin major as 2 of the 4 bolts on mine are no longer intact.

i haven't rolled it as yet anyway! touch wood:eek:

Its a metal bar across the start of the last 1/3 of the chassis. I assumed it was for keeping the exhaust up, its only held on with 4 bolts, though thinking about it could be providing extra strength in the way those chassis stiffening plates in the boot do/are meant to

That's the one. Mine was only held on with 2 bolts though...

can't see how that 1 bar and 4 rusty bolts can do much, wouldn't worry mate.

altho my stiffener panels have been binned also?!

i think i'm slowly killin my car!

where are we talking about?

edit ooh i see now;

 simcard doesn't think he has that?

simcard is not alone in this thought

the Quick one KNOWS he doesnt have that

so my guess is ---

your gonna roll it like 17 times, but dont worry, you will land back on the wheels and be able to drive away without any problems what so ever

also

there some nice chassis rails!

you fancy takingt hem off and giving them to me who happens to NOT HAVE ANY EITHER, since they have rusted and can be pulled off :|
