'Lo folks :)

Well I just picked up a gorgeous Phase 2 S-Reg (99) GTI in black, and it's a hoot to drive :) However, there's a knocking sound in the rear suspenion - the missus says it sounds like I've got a basket of pigeons in the boot :)

Also, I only got one key and fob with the car. Some guy at another one of the local Nissan dealers tried to force a new alarm control unit on me but surely that isn't necessary? The guy said it was because I didn't have the master key, but I told him I didn't believe him. As a result I'm going to a different Nissan dealership who say I just need another key and fob made up, then they can program them to the car.

Cheers :)

My rear suspension knocks...haven't had a proper look, but thinking it's the top mount from what other people have said on here. It might be the same problem...good luck anyway!! I guess it depends whether it knocks all the time or just going over bumps like mine.

Post up what it was when you get it fixed :)

Doubt its the linkage you`ve mentioned. More likely the rear shocks are shot, common on Almera`s.

Hmmm I did wonder if it was the dampers, but when I push the car down it comes back to rest really quickly. It doesnt rock 2 or 3 times or anything.

Taking it down to Nissan's tomorrow for a proper look. Hopefully I won't get too shafted :O

somes like the shockers are knacked. I had a new set put on and after a few week of use i had the exact same problem as you say. It turned out the new shocker was leaking (oil) and it was also slightly bent  (you could actually see it when on the ramps. Mine also seemed fine by pushing down on them but soon as you drove it knocked like hell.

I have a non master fob only and am pretty sure you need the master to program other fobs to it, other wise it is a new control unit (which aren't cheap)

its your rear shocks, there gone! thats what mine sounded like!

Took it to Nissan's yesterday, they say I need new rear dampers. Ho hum. Getting them done next week. They're also charging me £49 to DIAGNOSE what's wrong with the aircon. Fcukers.

More news as it comes in...

Right, got the rear dampers replaced and all is well with the world :) Every bump and rattle has now been eliminated. Now I just need an aircon compressor. Anyone got one?
