Lacquer

Been using the halfords lacquer over the newly sprayed white paint, but it doesn't give as good a shine as the original paint, and also turns the colour a shade darker after about a week when it hardens.

Can anyone recommend any other brand of lacquer that I can get in a spray can?

wait till this weekend has

im back up north ill sort ya some stuff out!

Ta Wayne. You are my hero. Except when you're being perverted of course. haha.

I've already ordered new paint from that paints4u website, with the proper paint code and all. So what I can do is respray the panel on Friday and then bring it up to yours Saturday for lacquering?

Went down to the street outside the office to take a picture to show you what i meant about the lacquer darkening the paint, and found that some cock in a volvo had squeezed himself into a space behind me far too small for his bastard car. As expected, he'd rubbed off the side of my bumper in the process. It's not that bad, will probably come off with a little bit of rubbing, but it still pisses me off that wankers can be so inconsiderate. And if you look at his/her car, it's not the first time.

Anyway, here is a pic to show you the lacquer darkening the paint. It's more obvious now after I rubbed off the overspray. Doesn't come out that well in the picture, but is quite obvious in person.

Actually it just occurred to me - is it a good idea for me to spray it and then drive all the way to oxford with the fresh paint? Is there a risk of dirt getting onto the paint and messing it all up? I suppose we can clean it when I get there and give it one new layer before lacquering?

it shouldnt be too bad if you leave it for an hour or so. I found the same with the halfords stuff darkening the paint, cant remember what one i use now but the #1 uv resistant stuff is good, halfords also sell it i think.

Well I'd probably be leaving it overnight, and I wouldn't drive it asides from the journey to quickdraws the next morning. I'm just worried that 50 miles on the motorway might spray some grit or dust into it without a clearcoat of lacquer?

Glad you mentioned the halfords thing, I thought maybe I had just done something myself to screw up quickdraw's magnificent work.

bring the paint with you!

all we shall do is rub down the top layer and give it a mist over!

erm. i also think i have been miss understood with my fiorst one!

im up north next weekend so can get some then!

so will actually be at the newcastle Vs man utd match on the saturday :P

Haaaa. Well i'll try and clean up the absolute shit i've made of the paint the day before then on the passenger side, and we can lacquer the panel up to the window while we're at it, as I'm sure i've taken quite a bit of the clear coat off inadvertently. The other side which I've just left as it is, is in fairly good nick, just tinted yellow as i mentioned.

Should be a quick jobby at yours anyway. :D

Just to confirm, I used paints4u and they dispatched the paint/lacquer quickly and it was very good quality. Haven't had the issue of the paint turning yellow with their lacquer, or at least not yet :) Will report back with pictures on friday when its hardened and I can polish it.
