Lost key got a key and barrel but engine light flashes

Can any one help me i lost the 1 and only key to my R reg 1.4 Si almera so i bought a 2nd hand key and barrell put this on and the car will start for a couple of seconds but cuts out and as soon as you turn the ignition key to on the engine light flashes. Is there a problem with the new key barrell ? as car ran perfect before i lost the key i suspect it may be the NATS system on the car can this be disabled in any way? Any help is gratefully accepted thanks nick
 
Correction!!
You need the ECU AND the NATS IMMU box.. Which is a black box under the steering column about the size of a pack of playing cards.. With Siemens written on it.
The Key, Ignition barrel (including ring), ECU and NATS IMMU box are all needed for the NATS system to clear and the car to run.

or why didnt you just get a new key from nissan, they come pre coded
 
Or costs £70 for Nissan to recode for you. I think that applies here anyway I wouldnt swear to it.

A) the first action available "and more than likely the best option" is as

scott and ED say! new Key from nissan - they precode it according to your VIN number and reg plate. As well as confirming you own the car :D

or why didnt you just get a new key from nissan, they come pre coded

the recode only applies to an old key - not a new one though!

B) second option is as shaggy says

you do infact need the barrel "THE RING around the barrel" and the NATS black box under the steering column (next to the green one if i recall correctly - might be beige) - aswell as the ECU and key

i would see if the rest of the requirements are available to you from what you have purchased already - if not then unfortunately you will have to go over to nissan with your V5
 
Thanks for all the help some good options there pity the car is only worth peanuts. Do i spend the money or do i just scrap it or alternatly does any one have all the relevant kit for me to put it right?

i have got a steering collum, nats controler and ECU off of my 1.6 Sri if thats any good.... also got the engine if u like :D

the steering collum has my decent GTi steering wheel on at the moment... but as soon as i get it off its up for sale :D
