lowering my car

as i cant afford coilovers i am looking at buying a set of spax springs. i know it is best for a suspention kit but i just cant afford it at the mo and want a temp kit.
question is has anybody else got these springs and are ther anything i need to know? also can someone post a pic of ther car with a 40mm drop with seventines. this is just to see how much of my hand i can fit in. thanks

search the forum? you never know what you might find lol...

anyway, eibach are meant to be quite good, what model is your car?

here is a picture of my old sri, with a 35mm drop on PI springs...

as you can see the front doesn't drop too much, however i was pleased with the back. when you sit in the front goes down a little further.

ye havin my car next to yours/sri alans it sits lower than mine at the back but not the front

mine is a phase 2 gti, i have looked into the pi springs, they look good as they drop 40mm. its the front i want to drop the most.

My SRi was dropped on GMAX but with 19s.

Would have a slightly larger gap with 17s on and this is meant to be a 35mm drop.

Front will nearly always be higher than the back, only on the focus in fast and modified have i seen the back higher than front!!

will it look any better than standard, or is it not worth the bother of springs. plus how much would adjustable coilovers cost and where from? ta

back to the springs! how long before my shocks give way if i put pi's on standard shocks, anybody found this problem?

If your shocks are in ok condition, then they should be alright.

However, some people opt to change the shocks at the same time, either new ones or uprated.

I had no problems with my shocks when I lowered my car, but they will wear away quicker I think.

thanks, decision made. i will try pi's if i dont like the look or ride i will take them back off. got a friend with a set of spring compressors so jobs a goodun

Yeah, I did mine myself. The rears are a bit of a pain as you have to remove 2 metal plates to get the the tops of the shocks. It takes a bit of time, as there are tons of screws holding them down.

As long as your bolts aren't too ceased (cant see them being that bad on a V reg), then you should be fine mate.

Has anybody tried cutting there front springs to get it lower? i did this on my BMW and Golf GTI but the Almera drives so nice dont want to mess it up?

LOL

Naylor for JAE!!! hehe

Ride looked harsh as fook!! Could see every bump he went over and was pissing myself when he drove into showground over a bouncy bit, chucked him out of seats!! :uberlol:

i got told that by lowering my car the tyres will wear uneven. this is because of the camber of the shocks. also you can get some sort of rubbers to correct the problem.
is this true? has anybody had this problem? and where can you get the rubbers from
?

My fronts are lowered 30mm at the front and i get very even tyre wear. The back isn`t a problem because its a beam axle and lowering doesn`t effect tyre placement.

has any1 found a good way of compressin springs without the right tools? cos i know they can be leathal if they fire off
