lowering query + shock advice

right then. i know that phase 1 almeras have longer front springs, so theoretically if i use 98-99 dated lowering springs on my phase 1, i should get a nice lowering yes? as my Si seems to sit very high.....

also can anyone confirm that knocking shocks and top mounts are a common problem on ph1's.....

it will sit nicely on p1 springs mate, mines on Pi 35mm springs and is sitting nicely now but was the same height as yours before, will get a picture tomorrow to show how it is now but im very happy with it, about an inch gap all the way round at the front (sounds more than it looks tbh) and probably a bit less at the back. front bumper is low enough as it is, my garage is sloped a bit and the bumper was less than 1/2" off hitting that when we backed it out, havent tried any speed bumps yet though but it should be fine on them so its a nice comprimise imo.

may i recommend Pi springs aswell, hear mixed reviews about them but iv found them from the short drive iv had with them to be very nice, quite but not overly stiff, handling is much improved and they have lowered it nice aswell, my mate said it was very stiff in the back but i havent sat in the back yet, seems alright from the front. ordered via Damo SRi

had PI springs on me GTI for 4 years never had a problem with them (now on coilovers)

sadly no, you'll be able to screw the top mounts on without coil spring compressors and the ride will be very crashy. thats how much shorter the springs are. i did that 4 yrs ago when i didnt know the difference between the two springs available.

i think the rear spring between p1 and p2 are quite different and wont fit.

Yup.... the diameter of the spring seat on the shock is different between ph1 & 2....
I have a set of -35mm G-Max lowering springs for sale at the moment, see my thread in the for sale section ;)
