Lowering springs?

Hey :)

I was just wondering - are these pi lowering springs?

Had all the wheels off today for the first time and cleaned all the calipers and everything up, and was thinking to myself - surely they don't make standard springs red?

Anyone shed any light?

Thanks :)

Pi springs are red and will have Pi wrote on them, think they just have the logo on them but i cant really remember now, definately something there to say they are Pi though.

is it just me that cant see a picture in the OP? reading it it sounds like there should be one, but im not getting a picture or even a red cross

d'oh! being the muppet I am, I forgot to post the pic up! The paint on the springs is crap, flaking off so I don't know what the chances of seeing the pi logo are...

I don't know how low the car is, but I'm pretty sure it's not standard height as the splitter is lower than a lot of kerbs!

Here's the pic

Regardless of brand, do you reckon they are lowering springs then?

Thanks :)

unfortunately for you, they could be anything.......

edit: put a picture of your car up as well.........

Yeah that's what I was thinking. I don't think it's lowered any further than 30mm, as I don't have any probs getting over regular speed bumps. I would say the ride is harder than it should be at stock (I don't think shortened shocks were put on). Comparing it to a standard almera in works car park, it's definitely lower (ignoring the skirts etc) as the wheels 'fill' the arch a lot more.

I like it at the height it is, but I don't particularly like the fact it's only on lowering springs with no shock uprate. I don't really want to destroy my bump stops by bottoming out the shocks everytime I go on a crappy potholed town road...hmm...what to do...

Thanks for your help :)

sure i read on here, you can lower up to 40mm without uprating the shocks, i have 40mm lowering springs on mine and i havent had any problems.

hmm ok...thanks for that andrew, maybe I don't need to worry then :) just a bit dubious that the dampers were designed for bigger springs that's all, maybe they have enough room for lowering then, which is cool :)

On another note, would I be able to sand the springs back and repaint them or is a powdercoat jobby? Would like them to look half decent instead of half rusted ;)

if you painted them the paint would just crack and flake again due to them flexing, im not sure if powder coating would be anymore durable or not

That's what I thought...nothing's ever simple  :P How about plastic paint? I'm sure you can get some stuff kind of like plastic filler that's flexible...maybe I imagined it though...

Edit: found this stuff...not sure if it's flexible enough to withstand the amount of movement from a spring, but maybe worth a try?

plasticky linky
