Hi guys, i just got my wheels for my car to be fitted on wednesday and got lowering springs for 40mm, but looking at everybodys car with 40mm drop it doesnt seem to make a difference, i like my ride to be low, i want to cut the springs any one agree with me on that one, and oh yeah i would buy adjustable suspensions, but i just bought the gti body kit and wheels and tints, and full exhaust so i cant afford it lol...

haha you really, really shouldnt cut your springs unless your next mod is your shocks poking through your bonnet.

so i take that as a no no then, oh well just going to have to leave as then, i will post pics up next week, can anybody tell me how to do it, or shall i do a new post as it may not be relavant in this one...thanks

Coilovers is what you want, dont under any cercumstances cut the springs :)

why lol...i am interested in knowing, so i know what to say if anybody ever asks me, i am being nosey like a little kid now sorry...

nah i bought H&R lowering springs drops by 40mm i want to cut them...

i think i will stick to it for now then, and when i got some money will have to buy the coilovers after i bought the gti engine for it...thanks mate

As mentioned, if the springs are too short they can come loose and come out of the seat. Not only that...cutting springs alters the rate (stiffness) of the spring so you will end up with uneven spring rates if you don't get it spot on...

You can compensate for the loose springs by moving the centre of the top mount upwards to keep it snug at full droop but that involves custom top mounts...

i dropped my old 1.4 40mm and it was pretty low. Before i dropped it it was so high could of passed as an off-roader

ok peeps once i put my wheels on tomorro i will get all the pics to show you guys...
