Maarten - Almera N15

Hi guys,

I just registered myself here and I'll tell in short about me and my car.

I am Maarten, 20 years old, live in the area of Amsterdam (Netherlands) and I bought a Almera two years ago, a few months after I turned 18 and a few days after I got my driving license. I love driving and I drive a lot of miles in different cars from work, friends. etc. My car is a 1996 Almera 1.4 GX Hatchback:

Bought it with about 160k kilometres (so no miles), now have 190k km. That's not that much in two years, but next to my job, I am just a college student without lots of money ;)
Besides, I drive a lot of other cars from work, family friends etc. Fiat 500, VW Transporter with trailer and everything in between..

The car is in real good shape. When I look around, most Almera's are dirty, damaged, old etc. I took some care of it when I bought it, got some scratches away, had some parts of the chassis being treated against rust, had some luxury license plates (not yet in the picture) etc. No real tuning parts, I'll keep it standard. Well, maybe I'll have a GTI lip, but that'll be it. The Almera is a nice quick car to cruise in, but not an extreme sports machine..
Anyway, I hope in a few months I may have a lease car but I won't sell the Almera. I'll keep it as long as possible, can't say goodbye to my first car. ;)

I won't post a lot here, but I'll read the topics, look at the pictures.. Maybe ask some questions when needed.

Cheers,
Maarten

I'm going to quote this piece as everyone says something along these lines when they register here

welcome maarten, enjoy your stay!

Thanks guys!
I managed to keep it standard for two years now, I'm full of hope it'll stay that way.. I think.. ;)
@Simcard; Thanks, my previous job was in English and I used to have lessons in English for the past ten years.. Glad I can use it some time.

Two years later, time for a little bump against this dusty topic no?
Guess what: I still have the car! In 2010 it got a new gearbox and interconnection (not sure if it's the right word, I mean the thing manual cars have a pedal for when they use gear..)

For the past two years I had no problems. Driven a lot of miles. At the end of this year I graduate at my university and I'm planning to keep it afterwards. By the time I have some more money I'm thinking of a new interior, since the current interior is in bad condition. When I hit 300.000 kilometer, maybe time for an engine replacement so I can make it a sleeper heheh..

Any other Dutch here, by the way?

Cheers

Good that it's still running mate. Definitely worth the engine change later on ;)
