May Sound Weird

Have fitted my APEXi filter, everyone is going on about how great it sounds, but I actually cant hear it over the engine noise, Standing over the engine with the bonnet up.
Doesnt sound remotely different inside the car either even over 4k revs.
Is this the same with all induction kits or is my engine just ridiculously noisey???

I dont think they are a noisy filter to be honest my piperX one is doible loud! I think the Apexi's filtration properties are alot better though!

Very sexy will be a great addition to your zorst,

Taking a direct cold air feed from inside the wing not improve the sound slightey. Or wud that only do that wen your driving.

the more air you get into the filter the more noise it's goin to make. my apiro air filter make's a right old noise.

Search on the resonator box. The apexi will sound louder, but you wont notice it just standing over the engine. Oh and do me a favour and support the filter with a bracket, nothing looks worse than a filter drooping in the engine bay.

The filter has a bracket, I made it before I put it on just cant see it in the pics.
Resonator boxes went when I changed the Fuel filter several birds with one stone, ey.

The K&N on my 1.4 is insanely loud, so loud my mum doesn't like being in the car for more than 20 mins lol. I think its down to where it's mounted (not ideal for performance):

Replace the rubber intake with an aluminium one.The filter looks quite small so the smaller surface area would prob make it quieter. Is it made for a gti? Doesn't look like you used the original bolt holes in the pic?

These are the filters from the NPOC group buy so they're made for most if not all N/A SR20DE's i think. They have 2 sets of 4 holes, i assume for different model mafs. They're a perfect fit though. I got one too but haven't fitted it. It does look smaller than what i had imagined but i'll see what it feels like when i install mine.

That filter is actually for the 300zx/z32, but just so happens shares the same MAF bolt pattern as the GTi.....

Why you quibbling over noise anyway? Does that make you go any faster?

Never knew that,

Im not worried about the noise of the filter never had an open filter so didnt know what to expect, was more aiming at the amount of noise the engine was making, thread just sort of headed towards the airfilter.

i bought an el-cheapo wannabe nismo filter a few years back which we put on the p10 for about 10 minutes, took it for a drive and it sounded exactly the same (except being able to hear it sucking in when it was idling), took it off to make a bracket for it and never got around to it, i gave it to my mate the other week and hes put it on his 1.0 micra and its very loud, no idea whats made the difference in sound, would of thought the p10 would be louder if anything with it sucking in more air.
