after i finished work this after noon i started my drive home but as i was pulling away, theres a not very nice sound coming from my gearbox,cv's or drive shafts! my clutch has not much more life in it either ,

its like a very whiny mechanical clock work sound , any help would be apreciated

The CV joint went on my old micra and it knocked when I was steering at slow speeds mate

Where's the knocking coming from? Front, could be CVs, rear, could be shocks or exhaust mounts.

I had this on my GTi after I thought it was the CV (as I have CV's go on previous cars and the sound was very similar) four different garages looked at it they all put it down to either the CV joint or the Wheel Bearing, as the wheel bearing as a hell of a lot cheaper at £90 and that sorted it....

I've had a knocking sound twice now since i bought my car nearly three years ago and always thought the worst. Do you know what it was both times?


one or two wheel nuts working their way loose and making the wheel knock on the hub!

na its not that been doing it for a looong tiome now and me car is gradually fallin to bits

it can't be all that bad, I have a long list of things thats going wrong with mine, but while its still moving i'll keep driving (and it isn't unsafe)

mine needs the CV's doing... now knock turning in both directions
rear wiper fell off
rear wiper motor stopped working
passenger window opens when i drive through deep water (closes when i press the button)
think I need new springs and shockers (the back end is sagging)
heated rear window doesn't work
lost all the wheel trims


Living at the end of a long, very bumpy country lane doesn't help


so in the scale of things could things get worse

Mine's similar at the moment, both CV's need doing, problems with either driveshafts/gearbox/clutch or all 3 and rear shocks are knocking and have gone very hard.

does mean there is a few water marks on the passenger seat or on the passenger lol

Its a shot in the dark, but have you checked your transmission/gearbox fluid level, if thats low then it could be over heating and that can lead to some pretty odd and serious problems...
