MOT and windscreen / wipers

How are the wipers tested in a MOT? Do they throw a bucket of water at the windscreen or what? :lol:

My car has what I think is Rain X on the windscreen and it's wearing away - so the wipers can sometimes streak quite badly yet there's nothing wrong with them :-/

Just a visual check for splits etc. They also check the washers.

Splits are not an MOT failure provided that they clear the screen effectively, the wipers condition, security & effectiveness are the MOT criteria. If they smear at the time they are tested then unfortunately it will fail.

Most MOT places will see a split and fail it. Regardless if the wiper still cleans the screen.

MOT test is just to make sure the wipers clear the screen effectively - end of really.

If they dont, get some new ones
