MOT Fail

Hi all, not had my Almera long, got it because my last cars gearbox had gone and i had already thrown to much money at it so scrapped it. Didn't have much money (just paid £2500 on holiday flights) so i bought a cheep Almera on Ebay (love it), 69,000 miles lady owner no advisories on the last 2 MOT's. Took it for a MOT today, failed on corrosion N/S & O/S outer and lower sills. My brother in law was a welder (says it is repairable, but dosent have the gear anymore so will have to hire some next week). Says it will be a pain in the arse to make it look good after!

From what i have been reading here on the forums, most people just put side skirts on. need some help, sure i read a thread somewhere that all 5dr and 3dr skirts are the same size, is this true?? as i cant find the thread now! also are they easy to fit i.e. no modifications?

Forgot to say my car is the standard Ph1 GX 1.6 Any help would be very much appreciated and if anyone has any for sale on here let me know save getting of Ebay.

Cheers

Sam

Yeah same size, they may need trimming around the ends if you're welding the sills (The new metal will be a different shape), then use screws at the ends and sealant along the inside to hold it.

tbh, your best bet will be to weld in new plates and underseal it etc,

the skirts dont cover up the sills that much :)

The ones i was looking at on ebay, look (from the pic) that they would cover the bit up where the welding is to be done. Cant believe no corrosion on any of the sill apart from the rear i.e. near suspension mounting, gutted really! i dont know about the quality of the ones on ebay, (not many) was looking at

Or should i stick with some Nissan standard GTi skirts! or if anyone has any recommendations as to sites selling them etc it would be appreciated, not bothered about looks anything will be better than a plate lol!

Thanks Corbs, that's the trouble with ebay, oh well just get it through its MOT first, then keep checking on here if there is any for sale? Would Ph2 skirts fit without much modification of am i better sticking with Ph1 ones?

Ok so getting these sorted this week, my brother in law is only like a fabrication welder and is we are not really clued up on motor welding! He said he can make me up some plates but it will take some time (busy at work at the mo) is there anywhere where i can buy like a pre-cut section? so all he has to do is weld it on (after clearing rust obviously) failed on outside and underside,
