Mot

Well it went through the mot today, failed the first emmisions test but the guy told me to go and rag it up the road!!!, came back re-tested and it passed, the lambda was the problem:

Co- limit 0.200 it was 0.026
Hc- limit 200 it was 4
Lambda- limit 1.030 it was 1.028 (close but passed!)

better than mine! my HC was 40 and the lambda was right on the top limit, any idea what could bring the lambda down.

oh and just changed my manifold (decated) and put thejanspeed decat back in after the MOT and it sounds beautiful, no chavvy Rasp!!!

I dont know how to bring it down,i asked the guy if i should change the sensor,he said dont fuck about with it a pass is a pass!
I think i'm leaving my cat on,i dont seem to get a raspy noise it still sounds nice and its more bearable on motorways (the sound in the car) and dont notice any difference in perfomance.
just need a good condition cat as mine is about shagged, then i'll sell my de-cat

I noticed you've dropped the racer ?

id let you have mine but ill need it for the sunny when i put it back in for an MOT, plus i know need a front pipe for the sunny as ive swapped them over as my exhaust was blowing terribly and making me luk like a right pleb lol

I'm sure Lambda sensors only measure O2 levels in your exhaust system. My old Mk III Fiesta 1.8 16 valve failed the first test because my cat-pipe on the exhaust was slightly blowing (due to me slapping the original cat-pipe back on taking the good old Magnex off!!) allowing too much oxygen (O2) into the exhaust, hence the failure. Fuckin stupid if you ask me but that's how it goes.

Every Lambda reading i've known has always been fairly close to the limit it's usually the CO2 & Hydrocarbons that are the problem.

ALWAYS take your motor for a good thrashing before an MOT as it clears the exhaust of hydrocarbons....especially in diesels.

how does thrashing it reduce hydrocarbons in the exhaust? yes it may get the cat so hot it burns some off but high revs dumps unburnt fuel down the exhaust?

your probably right as i can see the theory but the main reason for thrashing the car is to get the cat very hot, its a catalyst so chemical reactions will work better and faster if its hotter.

Yeah think you're right about the cat mate, but I was told years ago to thrash the motor to burn away the build up of Hydrocarbons in the exhaust...especially in the manifold area.

Unsure about the theory but i've stuck to it hahaha!!
