My 96 SRI

Hi all

am a newbie to this site..and was wondering if anyone could help

a good mate of mine has given me his 96 SRi...very tidy car but the problem is it wont start

its been sit on his drive for about 1 year without a battery so managed to get it towed to may place got a fully charged battery on it and now when i try to turn it over no joy...(starter mototr is try mind)...he thinks it could be the NATS playing up?....but it not one of the fob keys its just a nomarl key with a red bit in it...not sure if that means anythink to anyone...but all help would be wicked..got a fuel tank of fuel too and he did turn the engine over time to time so dont think it be sezie dont sound it + the oil is good

cheers

take each of the HT leads out and a sprk plug (1 at a time) put the lead onto the plug and check if there is a spark (obviously be careful) if the plugs are pretty dirty, get some new ones.

Ok done that and i dont have any spark what so ever...ERKKK...could it be summit to do with the NATS system cutting it all out + the spark plugs are dry as a bone too

Hey matey

Its not a NATS issue... if it was, the engine would start for about a second or two, and then NATS will cut it off.

Like the other guys said, spark plugs, HT Leads and Dizzy should all be checked, try replacing the spark plugs first, they're cheap enough :)

i was just about to say it wont be NATS :D definitely ignition related if you havnt got a spark. it doesnt help the ignition system when its been stood for a while

Have checked the dizzy and cleaned it up so dont think its that + checked all the leads with no spark..plugs dont look too bad but will see if i got new one to try it....whats next to check after all this as if the nats not causing problem?

Not the leads have by passed that by taking it off the battery and getting a very small spark am checking out the dizzy sensor which controls the timing circut now

Yep can hear that fine :)..think its the sensor in the dizzy check it out and it dont seem to be working correct + the ecm has pointed to the same place so get a replace tomorrow and try it out ....fingers crossed ;)

whooooo got it sort it was the dizzy sensor...and at £20 pounds i got a car now what to do with it keep it or sell it...mmmmm anyway thanks for all your help guys
