Hi

:D

Just purchased my first ever Nissan.
2001 Almera E.
Cody.jpg

So I am looking for tips and hints on how to make sure she stays with me a good long time.
Apparently has 45000 on the clock but this was changed (full details) and so only shows 15000 :)

Has disk brakes front and rear, one of which is binding and has to go back under warranty for repair.

Cheers

So where do I get a manual for my Almera?
Haynes don't seem to do them :(

Is it usual to have disc brakes all round?

Cheers

Mike

Hey and welcome! As far as I'm aware on certain N16 models it was only an option to have rear disk brakes, as it was on N15 non-GTi's.

What's that thing where the foglights go? looks like a standard cold air intake!

Think they are just that, inserts where the lights would go.
Maybe I can fit some?

So the car security looks quite good.
How do these cars rate?

First day we got her she locked us in and we could not get out
Various presses of the key fob buttons eventually did the trick.

Also, having had a 1982 Vaux Cav before this car things were simple then.
What if my battery goes down.

Whats the best way to charge, swap the battery.

Can I for example connect a 12vdc stabilised supply to the terminals to feed the various systems while the battery is out, if yes does anyone know the current rating required for this.

Thanks, looks a great forum this.

Yeah you'll be able to fit some from a scrapped n16 or whatever, your car might even have the wiring tucked behind the bumper for them already, the non fogged 95-00 almeras do.

Neat I'll check that :)

I think all N16s have rear discs, they're so heavy they need the extra braking!

I like the way its rides feels like a car not a tin foil covered thing :P

Only worry is that the driver rear brake got well hot, we took it back with a cloud of smoke coming from it  but they said they could not find anything wrong!
However it was fine then.

Sunday we were out and about and I noticed it was a bit warm, more so than the other side.

Life can't be perfect can it

nah they dont, only some. anything above a 1.5 will have it as standard,

they were standard on all models above the S up until just before the face lift when they seemed to throw them on everything. laterly again they were just on models above an S.

you want drums on an N16 anyway, the callipers (rear) are shiiiiiiiittttt!!!!!!!!!
they just decide regardless of maintenance, to seize!!

Apparently something failed and the mile counter is part of the same unit.
Its all officially stamped etc.

Hope its ok

She went back to the garage today and has to stay overnight for a new rear brake calliper
Oh well at least they are doing it under warranty.

But I miss my car :-(

ah well what have you got to worry about. that one should be fine then. dont neglect them though. keep a close eye on the one on the other side too, a tell-tale sign can be that the disk discolours a little (looks blue) snd sometimes the pad doesnt polish the disk, it wil be less shiny than the other. in ths way if you notice something you mite get another new calliper under warranty too. lol
