my santa pod runs

helo all, here are my time from santapod on the sunday just gone, here are the links of my best time and some pics, i was hoping to do better, altough the officials said that every one is running about 1- 1/2 sec slower due to the damp/slippery track + strong head winds, still 15.6 isnt bad, although 15.3 is my pb. i managed to get i 14 runs in 3 hours too

cheers fellas

full engine rebuild, leightened n balanced crank assembly/flywheel/crankpully, kv85s, skimmed/ported/polished head, backs of the valves cut back, manifolds portmatched, induction kit, 4-2-1 manifold, no decat, cat back straight through exhaust, fse boost valve, fse 255lthr full pump, dastecks uniQ remapable chip, oil cooler, helix single plate organic clutch kit.
achiving 165bhp 144lbft
this is on standard cams, intend to get jwt sg3 cams n hks or another make of adjustable pullys, springs n retainer set too.

^ am i right in thinking that 20bhp extra over stnd isn't correct for those mods above?! without seeing a rr print-out id have said easy 180bhp with all those engine mods.

....well, he made the mistake of messing with the sr20s bottom end which is already top notch. The cylinder head also flows pretty well from factory, so little gains are found there. The extra 15-20 hp is coming mainly from the exhaust, header and ECU.

well i may messed around with the bottom end but when you have the engine in bits its worth doing the finer things even if they give small gains, ie wen i fit the cams the work ive done to the head will complement them more, but its got more torque from doing so, ask sirmixalot how it goes i took him for a drive the other week,
:D

Although far from being an expert on the subject, its refreshing to see people with a different take on modifying.
Looking forward to see how it does with cams!

my rr print out did say 165bhp at the crank and 142 at the wheels again with 144lbft, i dont know if the machinery was wrong maybe, but wen i was at santapod i raced this honda type r with a k&n and a cat bk jap exhaust, the new ish shape ie 05 reg, and raced him 6 times everytime being consistant 2-4 tenths of a sec behind him, from the start line to about halfway we was waving to each other out the window! :)

I wasn`t knocking what you`d done Stu. Hats off for doing something different, its just not what i`d do or recommend someone else to do.

Fit some cams and you`ll easily be beating the CTR`s.

That's wierd, as I got 162bhp at the crank and 134whp at the wheels with 144lbft. And I raced 2 CTR's at shakespears and beat them both times...obvisously lots to take into consideration, like me being the better driver  or what not.

its ok rowdy, it is weird how my dosnt beat ctr's yet gtikurts does, i think it is all down to all the modifications coming together and producing an ass wooooping machine, like someone said a while on aoc somewhere, you could fit the best coilovers and hae the bollocks of a suspension setup, yet if your running budget tyres or even to much psi your gonna lose time! would suspension slow me down that much on a drag run? im still running my stock suspension, getting some coilovers ordered up soon, as you can tell wen i pull off the line on the santapod pics the front comes right up and rear right down, it looks stupid.

They help a lot with traction as the front end is kept down.
I take all r/r figures with a pinch of salt but I reckon yours will be getting held back topend of the rev range with the standard cams so new ones will help there

cheers naylor, wen you say top end do you mean more power in higher rpm or top speed, coz after id had all my work done to my engine, run it in, then got it mapped etc at dastek in edinburgh, on the way home i coming down the a1 past newcastle i hit 147mph at that point my ass gave it some!

Higher RPM.

As a set of S3R's have more lift and duration, keeping the valves open longer.

With standard wheels and gearbox a gti can do 149mph at the redline in 5th gear. It wouldn`t have the power to overcome wind resistance though.....unless it was down hill.
